typical cruising range

I'll be flying to Columbus oh next week with my couisin.
About 850 mile roadtrip to bring my 82 SC back to Boston.

What is a safe cruising distance before I fill up the tank?

Car is stock; except for ssi's.

We'll be doing mixed highway 65-70 and secondaries 40-55.

Thanks.

I'm getting pretty excited now!

Sure you don't mean KM? I drove from Sydney to Brisbane (968 Km) on 1 1/2 tanks of fuel, mostly sitting around 100kph. That would be 600 miles.

Also in an old car with unknown history It would be best not to run the tank below 1/4 so you don't pick any crud that may be lurking in the bottom of the tank.....

Just my experience not written in stone.

I would do 400 Miles first time and calculate the fuel consumption after the first fill up. Then you know the specific fuel burn on your car. On y '86 I can do about 500 Miles on (legal) highway speeds.

Good luck on the drive! I reside in Cleveland (about 140 miles north of Columbus) and am there just in case you need any support on your ride back. I suspect you will be taking I-71 North to I-90 - minutes from the homestead. Have fun!

Yea, 500 miles per tank is about what I got on a stock 85. I just changed my 5th gear to a taller gear and dropped 500 RPM in 5th. I will be on a road trip soon and it will be interesting to see the gas mileage.

I'll offer up road assistance as well. Akron is my base. 30 or so miles south of vesnyder. I'll pm you my phone on the off chance you need some help.

Have a great trip.

About the same for my 81. A little less maybe as I always chicken out and fill up before I hit 500 miles.

On secondary roads, through the PA mountains in a 911, I like the 400 mile choice. It's the law to give it the beans a few times.

320 has been typical for my SC, but that's village-to-village short stints, and it was in need of some tuning. Yours may be, too. I'd go 250 and fill up just to see where you are consumption-wise.
