3.2 motronic ECU model year compatibility
Hello- I have an 86 engine and ECU transplanted in a 76. The system seems to work well, but now I am interested in trying out a Steve Wong chip upgrade. I have a second ECU, a# 0 261 200 082 or 911.618.111.20. This is correct for a 1987 3.2. It will be way easier to use the second ECU with various upgrade chips by just plugging it in than to keep prying the 86 ECU open. I have the tabs on the 87 ECU untwisted, and just use a thick rubber band to keep it together. So-is the 87 24 pin ECU compatible with the 86 engine? Thanks for your answers.

AFAIK, all the wiring harness's are the same, so the ECU's are compatible. Regarding the earlier 24 pin DME's, they can be converted to the later style 28pin, there are threads on this. I suspect you will want to do this, I doubt SW supports the 24pin, as it uses internal 8051 prom to supplement the code in the external eprom.

Yes, it is compatable. You may need to set your base idle to 880 RPMs after she is warmed up with the 87 ECU.
