Momo Prototipo Measurement Help

Anyone with this steering wheel, can you take a set of calipers and measure the diameter of the grip of the steering wheel (i.e. where you wrap your had around the steering wheel).

According to Momo's site, it mentions 30mm. I have a vintage Momo I got from ebay that measures about 33mm. I'm just wondering if the new momo wheels are actually more in line with the 33mm size, I like the beefer bigger diameter feel in my hands, or whether I should expect a smaller diameter wheel.

Anyone can help me out?

I can do it when I get home if no one else does it sooner. They don't feel particularly thick though as someone coming from BMW M steering wheels.

Appreciate it. Yes this is what I was afraid of, my vintage one feels pretty thick, at 33mm, which is not much from 30mm, but I saw a newer style prototipo on a car over the weekend at a car show and it looked visably smaller in diameter than my vintage wheel. True test would be measuring with calipers.

Thanks!!

If you like beefier wheels then you will not like the prototipo. I bought one a few years back and was immediately bummed out in regards to the feel of it. This is my fourth after market steering wheel, had two other momo's and a luisi, the proto is thin in comparison.

I've been thinking of having it rewrapped honestly.

Me too, brought mine down to an upholstery shop, they took one look at it and said they wouldn't touch it. Too nice of wheel they said.

There is a rewrapper in the BMW community called CobyWheel who does alcantara. There are a few others that do leather and such. Time to start throwing out a few lines.

Looks like 32mm front to back and 30mm top to bottom:

Appreciate the measurements. Seems pretty close to my vintage momo at least vertical measurement. I guess I need to find a local car and wrap my hands around the wheel.

I concur. Just measured a new Prototipo dated 07/96.

About the same at 31mm+ and 30mm+

If you like a thicker wheel try an old Jackie Stewart or Jacky Ickxx. They are quire a bit thicker. They are flat and smaller diameter too.
