Non-Simplified Differential Parts for late 901?
I read a few posts in the forum about converting my late magnesium 901 transmission, to a non-simplified differential, but it appears that all of the referenced part numbers are "No Longer Available". Are these parts still available new, or do I need to find them used?
Thanks! |

While its true that the later style 901 diff will instantly destroy itself if the little tits on the ends of the bolts wear down or break off, I'm curious why its not recommended to simply renew the bolts at some regular interval? I've had several of these transmissions over the years, and have on occasion replaced worn bolts, but (knock wood) have never had any diff problems. Is there more to the story?

You can get the parts from a 914 trans, they consider them throw away. I have gotten them for free a couple of times. You can make the modifications to these parts (the 914 ones) simple or complicated; I have seen the mod to the parts done with a hand die grinder and on a lathe in a machine shop. When you actually see what the mod is you can make up your own mind as to how precise your are comfortable with.
As to replacing the bolts with the tits, they were NLA for many years.

find a 914 trans and use the diff. they're usually cheap on craigslist.
