3.2 O2 sensor not plug-n-play

just got my new O2 sensor ('87 Carrera) and was surprised to see it had this SmartLink adapter kit. is it that hard for Bosch to supply plug-n-play O2s for 3.2s now?? i was a little surprised by this. maybe i'm asking for too much, but i want the least amount of cuts/adapters in any of my sensors/harnesses/etc.

Sounds like you bought a universal three wire sensor instead of the OEM sensor.

looks like your absolutely correct, gtc. i bought it from pelican and it seemed to be the only one listed for the '87-89 Carrera. I thought the O2 sensor at the bottom (of the 5 listed) was only for the 930 and I missed the Carrera listing entirely. crap!

It's a little confusing, for sure.
Pelican sells, in order from $$$ to $:
Genuine Porsche (stock connector)
Bosch with Porsche part number (stock connector)
Bosch with Bosch part number (stock connector)
Bosch (universal connector)

Damn. Just ordered the wrong one last night and its already shipped out. Guess i will have to contact pelican when i recieve it as well. From the looks of it if you use the universal one once you would not be able to use the oem style again as you would have to remove the stock connector from the car, or am i wrong in thinking that

i'm not sure about cap'n's suggested part #, but i'm returning 15735-M14 and ordered 965-606-126-01-M14.

i don't even see a part referencing 13-924.

From pelicanparts.com:

Oxygen Sensor (part #965-606-126-01-M14)
This part may also fit in the following categories:
911 Carrera / Turbo (1987-1989) $127.00
964 C2/C4/Turbo (1989-1994)

it appeared to me the universal connector was used to splice the new O2 sensor and lead to the 'old' plug - showed you where to cut, etc.. the OEM sensor has the plug (and a new grommet) all in one. I did not want it spliced together, so i opted to return and reorder.

interesting, we'd both make the same mistake almost at the same exact time.

hmmm. i've already talked to them and ordered my new sensor, but you may want to mention that we both misread the info on the site/that part when you talk to them. up to you.

965-606-126-01-M14 is a corruption of the Porsche part number and is correct for your application. The number I gave you is the Bosch number. Pelican has added the "M14" to the end of the Porsche part number, probably to avoid legal hassles with Porsche. I'm used to using the Bosch numbers because I was a Bosch Parts Specialist, a high sounding name for someone who sells a lot of Bosch parts and has a certificate to hang on the shop wall. Sorry for any confusion I may have caused!
