Will My Car Pass CA Smog
Pelican Brain Trust:
My car failed. It was fairly warm and then sat for 20-30 minutes before the tech ran it on the dyno. Is it fair to say it would pass if hadn't sat before testing. I say this because it passed the 2nd half of the test but not the first check it out: 1993 BMW 325i 130k miles...recent plugs, filters, coils etc... apologies...meant to post in off-topic ![]()

HCs and NOx are really high at idle speed, and the HCs are too close to the limit at cruise. HCs are a result of incomplete combustion. What grade fuel are you running? If you're running 91 octane, try running it very low and adding a half tank or more of 87. Run it for 150-200 miles and have it tested again. Lower octane fuel burns more completely, and should drop the HCs significantly.

You might try the BMW forum, there may be some experts there who may be of more help.
