993 ducktail

So, I added a ducktail to my 993. I like. The white early race car hiding there belongs to our own John Cramer, also sporting a ducktail. QUACK! QUACK!

Very cool. Did you replace the whole rear lid, or just add the duck portion. It would be interesting to see the duck and the movable spoiler together...or maybe a movable duck?

Oh, the purists cringe some more

The whole stock tail was removed and the integrated ducktail/engine cover added. The grill is SC style.

How much fabrication did it take to get that lid to fit on the 993? I'd love to be able to add a 993 lid/tail to my SC.

cheers

John, just with the performance side of things...

It reduces lift somewhat right? have u noticed any differences?

It would rob the engine of a few hp not having the auto lid wouldn't it?

Anthony.

Seems like the ducktail lid should be significantly lighter than the stock one, especially if it's fiberglass. Did you save any weight on this one?

Porsche Crest Ducks in a Row

JC, once again, a fitting and stylish homage to Porsche tradition.

Man, I am still stinging from having had that trophy in my hands for 30 seconds! I will have to find something else to put in the space on the wall I cleared for it-- maybe a picture of your car!

That looks absolutely "right", John!

It's as if that ducktail is a factory option. Nice work! Did you make it yourself?

I think that looks great.

Part of the reason is probably because the 964/993 spoilers are just a variation on the ducktail. The other part is that a well-designed car part will generally look good on a well-designed car.

Sorry for being Mr. Negative but this is too much model mixing for me. Ducktails are ok on early cars, but on a 993?

I'm not sure if I like it or not - I love ducktails, and I love 993s, but... there's just something about it, it doesn't quite seem to look quite right with that fat 993 rear end, it looks a bit too small IMO. At first glance, I really loved the look, but now I'm not so sure.

Just my $.02 worth.

Much better than 993 tail in the up position.

I've seen a car updated to a 993 style with a ducktail and a tubular air intake on each side of the ducktail, looked good - anybody have a photo, or know builder?

Regarding weight, it's definately lighter although I forgot to weight it. I'd estimate at least half the weight of the full tail I removed.

As far as its effects on handling I don't know yet. The suspension is not set correctly yet and the car has a nose-high rake. Until that is lowered, aligned and balanced I cannot judge. On the front there is a Supercup type splitter.

Exclamation

I only wonder what the factory thinks about this?

Do you think Porsche AG has some raw recruit assigned to read this BB and follow underground movements like the SCWDP?

I can only imagine: "Hey Hans, come look at this. Those crazy hot-rodding Americans are messing with our designs again".

Wow, John... I had no idea you had such a nice looking 993. They are nice... no SC mind you, ...but "nice".

And I do see Cramers VWagon back there too!
