2.4S engine case number

Hello fellow Pelicans,

I just purchased a 2.4S crankcase, which is correctly marked 911/53 and has a correct (according to the Porsche literature) engine serial number (632 2172)

The only thing which makes me wonder the serial number was restamped is that the case is a 7R...

Maybe some of you with better acknowledge than me can confirm that a late 72 production engine can have a 7R case? I read somewhere that after sept. 72 Porsche started the production for my 73 cars.... Maybe this engine was destined to one of these cars?

Thanks a lot.
So it might be possible that the case has an original serial number?
