1971 Heater controls - What are the basics?

I have searched and despite this extremely helpful post (that made me laugh) still have questions....

Heater Controls

I need to connect the heater controls on my 71 and need help with what they do.

Next to my handbrake I have the single red lever that controls both rear heater boxes. I also have a threaded stud on the left but no black lever as I have seen elsewhere. I have a 79 3.0 in the car - is this lever associated with the heaters or with the original 2.2l (e.g choke?)

The three controls on the dash....

The upper one is still connected to the vents in the hood. The lower two are still connected to cables but the cables are disconnected. Does anyone have a schematic of how these levers / cables attach to the vents / flaps under the hood?

Thanks
Sam

I am in the process of writing up the next installment in my thread (link below) that will cover where the cables for the lower two levers attach to the air distribution boxes. I have the text written but need to due some processing on the photos. I hope to have this posted early this week. If you need details sooner than that, let me know.

These controls are actually very nice in that they allow you to adjust the cold airflow (top lever with fan assist to the right) the hot airflow (bottom lever) and the spread of resulting air either to the windscreen vents or the vents above your feet (middle lever) If you only have the top lever connected then a photo of what you have under the hood would help formulate an answer. Mine is apart at the moment to change the fan motor so photos are easy. The lever on the left by the emergency brake is the manual throttle and the red lever on the right as you know is the flapper box control from the heat exchangers. Its all infinitely variable but unfortunately favours colder climates rather than hot.
