Getting the idle right

I still do have a problem with the idle control valve, I have one on order.
But I have taken heed and jumped the circuit at the plug thingy, that works a treat
in setting the idle speed @ about 875rpm,smooth and steady. But when I take the lead off the engine drops reeves to around 550rpm. a tad low, some asked if I leave the jump lead in and drive around like that? any thoughts, I guess it won't idle when cold.

Thanks Steve.

Oh no no no Brother Steve do not drive with it jumpered.

You did adjust idle after you got her up to 194 degrees F, right? This part is extremely important.

Do you have a catalytic convertor? Because if she is cold, then the o2 sensor will kick in richening the fuel mixture, lower the idle just a tad but even then idle should not drop to 550RPMs, that is way too low, to almost stalling.

Now when she drops to 550RPMs, remove the oil filler cap to check for a vacuum leak/s. If she does not stall or drop in RPMs, you have a vacuum leak you need to find.

What are the Ohms on the old ICV?

what year is the car?
what is the problem

i dont think jumping the circuit is a good idea. if your car has electronic FI and you are jumping the plug with it plugged in, you can damge the computer. if you remove the plug and jumper the ICV, you are doing nothing. if you remove the plug and jumper the plug you are doing nothing.
