Low beams quit!

I've noticed lately on my all stock, including those goofy sealed beam headlights, 1983 911sc that even with the column stalk in the low beam position, the lights would intermittently run in high beam setting. I could fiddle with it and it might go into low beam mode for a bit, when I would later notice it would be on high beam setting even if the TS stalk was on low beam detent.

Well, tonight, I was fiddling around with the TS stalk again, trying to prompt the LB setting, when the low beams suddenly when dark. I could pull the headlight swith and get the parking lights on, and even get the high beams to work when pulling the TS stalk all the way back/toward me. The fog lights work only when I pull the TS back toward me turning on the high beams.

When this happened, I noticed a slight burning smell. Checked the #1, 5, and 6 fuses and they were burned. Simple, right? I replaced them all with the correct spec fuses and still no low beams. Anyone here have a similar situation??
I've already checked the search feature here, to no avail.

Replace the turn signal combi switch. That's been the answer since Porsche installed the first switch of that design..

And do install the relays, if not done alteady. Without them there is too much current passing through the light switch and the turn signal switch. The turn signal switch maybe repairable if that is the problem:

turn signal switch quick fix pictures

Lost my low beams.

Update...
I removed the steering wheel and gained access to the turn signal stalk switch. Alittle frustrated at first, trying to bend the high beam contact as suggested in the above thread. It just seemed I was getting nowhere, as the low beam and high beam would not come on, but the high beam still would come on when pulling the stalk toward me. Read further on the TS switch thread, and there is a reply from Walker stating to bend the thick, silver bar toward the 3 contact strips. It took multiple attempts, but THAT is ultimately what worked for me.

Working low beams, high beams, $0 expenditure and alittle sweat. Amazing!!

I did exactly the same on my '79SC and also had complete success. In my case it also was the bent silver bracket that I straightened out. Actually I was able to remove it carefully from the switch assembly, bent it straight, and put it pack.

Glad you got it working. Now, go get the head light relay kit.
