How much do you want to spend? The big thing is to make sure it is SA approved. I would suggest making sure it is SA 2000, so you will be able to use it for a few years. You will find some dealers selling SA95 ( I think) at discount prices, but some sanctioning bodies will not let you use the older ones.

As far as open or full face, that has been discussed at length here, as well as which brands. Do a search and you will find lots of info.

I like the Bell M2 as a nice full-face helmet. Has a wider eye port if you wear glasses or sunglasses. A decent budget helmet is the G-Force GF950. A lot of folks bag on this helmet and make comments about your head being worth more than 239.00. Remember, though, it has to pass the same Snell tests the other helmets do to get the rating. The Bell is really comfortable and has good ventalation.

cheers

Go to a shop that stocks "SA" rated helmets and try and buy. (Motorcycle shops will not have "SA" rated helmets.) Helmets are a bit like shoes and you really need to try them on. Fit varies between different models even from the same brand.

Helmets are rated for ten years. An SA95 will be dissallowed in 2005 gto what I have been told at the track by a POC tech. So, for two years of use, maybe the savings are worth it. In two years, you might want something different. But, on the other hand, you are saving only about a $100 over an eight year helmet.

I am happy with my GF950. It fits great. And appears well made.
