Post electrical question

My power windows and stereo still work even with the key out of the ignition. Is this normal?

Not unless my 911, which is the same age as yours, is not working properly. My windows and stereo do not work with the key out of the ignition -- only with it turned to the "ON" position.

Not on my SC either.
Do you think this may be the work of a previous owner who fancied himself as an electrician?

Do they work immediately after you remove the key, but before you open the door?
Does opening the door cause the "keyless" operation to stop?

That's the way the Carrera [84-89] is connected. Power to window motors is held on after the key is removed, until the driver's door is opened. Radio should lose power on key removal, but the PO or installer may have used a +12 line that it not controlled by the ignition switch. If so, better make sure it is fused in-line.

Yeah, the power does stay on until I open the door. I've had the car for a year, and I'm just figuring out these things. A couple days ago, I learned on this board about the centigrade temperatures surreptitiously printed on a virtually invisible margin of the temp. gauge. Are there any other clandestine features I should know about (before I inadvertently eject myself through the sunroof)?

That's what I figured. My 911 and Audi bot supply power until the door is opened. Don't worry, it's perfectly normal.

I also remember reading something about using the directional and then taking the key out. Apparently the light keeps blinking.

Porsche... gotta love it :-)
