911 door mirror
Hello: I have an '85 911 Carrera and have been looking for some sort of upgrade from the flat right side mirror to a convex glass type. My mirrors are the earlier snap-in style. I can take a stick-on type if I can find one. A direct replacement would be preferred. Any thoughts? Thanks. Mike...

Look in PET for a convex mirror glass.

your local auto glass shop may be able to cut one for you at a fraction of the cost.

or you can simply adjust your mirror properly.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KwzUE6PHk4U I and my wife did this and now we can see all cars in our blind spots. Note, it takes time to get use to but you will love it, it really works well. Remember with this technique, if you see the car/s do not change lanes, they are right on your 6. Jim

I searched through both companies current catalogs without success. I rummaged through boxes of old Porsche stuff and found the original installation paperwork with the manufacturers name, Multivex. A web search said they closed their doors in 2012 when the firm who bent their glass was no longer able to do so. Our host sells OEM convex replacement mirrors , unfortunately the convex is only available for the right side, and will fit 944s and '87-89 911s. I'm still searching, will let you know if I find something. please do the same. Willie

You want to order a European convex right side mirror.
I ordered one a few years ago for my '81 SC flag mirror. It has the 3 push in retaining clips, rather than the later style with lock ring. Look in PET at the Euro mirror options/part numbers. I'm sorry I don't have the # handy. Cooper |

Convex mirror source
After trying the internet, and local sources to locate convex mirrors without success I purchased two used flat mirrors so I could at least drive my car.
I followed javadog's advise and looked in the PET Genuine Parts Catalogue - Classic Genuine Parts & Technical Literature - Porsche Classic - Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG (dated 23.01.2010). It clearly listed a convex mirror for the 911 flag mirror. The last two numbers were different than the NLA part in Pelican's catalog. Armed with confidence I contacted a local Porsche dealer's parts department. I provided the part number 911 731 035 09. Requires special order from Germany ... they quoted $135 + approx 20% shipping and 10 - 14 day time frame. I'll let you know how it works out. Willie
