Show me your gauges
I have heard people turn some of their gauges for better visability. I plan on doing this to my speedometer, because at highway speeds I can't see how fast I'm going.
Is there any benefit to turning any of the others? Could someone post an example of their gauges? Is it as simple as it seems (just turn the gauge) or is there some kind of anchor behind the dashboard?

The most important gauge to rotate is the BIG one right in the center. Make your 'redline' visible by rotating counterclockwise. One of the cool things about these cars is how easy they are to work on. Gauges just pop out. Rotate, pop back in.

When I put a smaller momo wheel on I rotated the speedometer about 45 deg. to the left to see the numbers at the top better.
Nothing to it. Just has a rubber grommet type sleeve that holds it in place. ![]()

Don't have any pictures here at work.
As mentioned the guages just pop out. But when I first heard that and tried it it wasn't so clear how to go about it. There's a rubber gasket of sorts around each of the guages. The only part that shows looks like an o-ring. I put some electrical tape over a flat blade screwdriver, then wrap some around it. Then wedge the screwdriver between the edge of the guage and the round o-ring looking part of the gasket. And pull outwards, keeping the screwdriver firmly planted so it doesn't slip and gouge something. Sometimes I use my finger to pry against, just to get some leverage. Then just work your way around, at first it doesn't want to move then it gets easier. The trick to getting them back in without folding the gasket over, because it's dry, is use Windex. Windex will make the rubber slippery to get the guage back in easily, then evaporate without leaving a mess. Windex works well when you are pulling wires through a rubber gromet, like a firewall pass through. Hmmm... I guess the wall between the trunk and passenger compartment in a 911 is not really a firewall is it? Yea, I guess it could be.

I used to have mine turned, but put it back to the facotry placement. I have no problem seeign the tach at any RPMs and it is just a matter of keeping the needle in site. I got used to the 3:00 position of the redline. Just my .02

Here you go:
![]() I can definitely see the temp gauge better, I much happier with the tach when I turn the wheel.

Sorry, but when I see the turned guages, I think of Shaq and his old "Taco Neck Syndrome" commercials.
I can just see Shaq driving an old 911 with his head on his shoulder! ![]() ![]() ![]()

Sam, very nice on the Tach. Did you have a different tach installed or send it out to reposition the needle and have a face made?

Here's a tip if you have trouble removing guages for rotation: remove the clock first, it's usually the easiest - then you can reach behind to the speedo and go down the line.

Sam - nice looking! I like the "turned" tach. How much did they charge?
Also, I found it easiest to push the fuel guage out from the trunk, then reach through the holes down the row.

I turned my tach so redline is straight up. That way I know where I am in relation to redline without actually looking at the tach.

My car was part of "The Fast and the Furious". It activates nitro. If you look at the odometer, it shows all the way up to 200 MPH.
Then, I wake up and realized that it control the CD/Receiver. RUF! RUF! RUF! btw, u r the 2nd person to ask! |

Thanks for all tips and photos.
I'm going for something like Don's, but the white gauges look very nice. (Maybe when I can fit it in the budget). Can I turn the tach so redline is at 12:00 without damage/ modification? Moses, the Shaq comment had me LOL.
