All of a sudden.. BAM!!

I've been getting my garage and shop in order for my upcoming engine drop and rebuild of my 964, and that includes getting my daily driver in tip top shape. In fact, I just got her back on the road after brakes, tires, top overhaul, etc. and was really excited about my upcoming Porsche work. But, then today at lunch I did a little shopping and was on my way back to the office when BAM I was hit by a woman who ran a red light! I was on a 45 mph street and just entered an intersection on the green light when she hit me at very high speed. High speed enough to toss my car on its roof! Anyway, I know this isn't "on topic" but I wanted to share with all my Pelican friends that I am okay and unhurt, and soon my Porsche work will begin anyway. (Good thing that the Porsche wasn't apart yet, as I needed this evening for transportation).

Rex

Dang.

Glad to hear you are okay.

Will be interesting to find out if this was cell phone related or not.

No, the driver of the other car claims that she was just distracted talking to her daughter who was sitting beside her in the front. Was a rental Toyota with California plates, and the road she was on was one of those roads that was freeway that turns into divided city street with stop lights. Plenty of warning signs before it stops being a freeway, but if she was totally distracted......

Thanks for nice posts, guys. I have just had some amber-colored post accident medicine, and I'm going to turn in for the night. Although I truly feel fine tonight, everyone warns me that I'm going to wake up tomorrow morning with lots of aches and pains. Hope not!

glad to hear you are ok.

i say cell phone/texting.
i try to look to the left even with a green light. too many people around here run red lights.
i would what been nailed by a dump truck if i had not have looked before pulling out.

get a GOOD lawyer.
when i got hit by a car i had around i am guessing $50-60k in medical bills. the lawyer negotiated it down to around $7k. the rest i pocketed.

Glad you were not seriously injured and I hope you're not too sore today.

Wait for the cobwebs to clear before you make any decisions. Write down everything while it's fresh in your mind. You might not need it, but you might. Once you and your insurance company start talking you need to remember than even though you are paying them, they are not your advocate. You are your advocate.

Well, I'm up and at 'em this morning and feel pretty good, so I think I escaped unharmed, at least so far. The destroyed car was NOT my Porsche, it was a 2000 Chevrolet that I inherited from my father. I just put a lot of money and time into making it a good, reliable daily driver so I could embark on my Porsche project that will likely take some months. Unfortunately, being in top condition doesn't mean much in an insurance settlement. Thanks, again everyone for your concerns. Hopefully my next thread will be of my P starting to come apart!

I hate to be the skeptic, but then it was her daughter with the cell phone showing her a picture, video or something.

I've had passengers attempt to distract me by going though my glove box or other intrusive activity. Needless to say those people never get a second ride or chance.

On second thought, sometimes drivers just are not paying attention, add into it an unfamiliar rental car and there you have it.

when my car was totaled a while back the insurance company said they would pay for recent repairs done in the past 60 days. Unfortunately the majority of work I did was 90 days old so no luck but it was an option.

Glad you walked away from that without injury.
I would still go to your doc or ER just for a once over. At least in FL you have I think it is 24 hrs to be evaluated. If you are not, and injury crops up in the future, you may not be covered.
No, I am not an ambulance chaser by any means- but get consider getting yourself checked out.

Glad to hear you're OK. And glad to know that that white car on its roof is not a 911 as I thought at first.

You got to give the Chevy its due: to take a hit like that and walk away without any injuries says something about the safety features of modern cars. If that happened with my old BMW I'd have more to worry about than day after soreness.

As others are saying...

be your own advocate and write it all down. Be aware that this posting is evidence of your current state of well being, but I can tell you from experience the neck strain etc. that you *might* experience may not yet have materialized.

Be careful out there folks!
