Question for Cab owners - can I run short term without my cab top cover on?

Hi,

Quick question for other cabriolet owners or just those that have an answer for me really. I'm sending my cab top cover back to the dealer that sold me the car and they are going to swap it out for a new one (it was old, dirty, etc and was missed in the PPI). The sun is out and I really want to be driving around with the top down but even the factory manual says not to do it. That driving without the cab top cover can damage the actual top.

Experience or opinions?

Thanks,
Jeff

If out for quick drive around town I seldom use the boot cover. Longer than an hour or so or if at highway speeds then it is worth putting the cover on. I've been doing this since I got the car without damage to the top.

Funny you ask because I always use my cover (I am relatively obsessive, and the manual says to do so, therefore I do it). But last week I decided to go out for a spin without it...and I will never do it again. There is a fold bar that sits on top, and it rattled on every bump. I also worried about wind getting under the top and moving it around. Suit yourself, but there is a reason the manual tells you to use the boot. Enjoy the cab, though, in any case. There is nothing else like it.

I own my Cab for the third summer now and always use the cover if I go on the highway. Only for a quick city drive to the store I leave it off.

Same here - quick drives I go without the cover.

By the way, Lyle O, that fold bar should actually sit inside the folds of the top. I gently push mine back when the top is about halfway closed. There were some threads about it a few years ago.

Ahhhh!!!! Just did it, and it fits like a glove in there. Thanks, Magerian. I learn something here everyday.
