Dust plug for fuel mixture access hole--any good solutions?
I was cleaning up my CIS today (its off the engine) and discovered my access hole for the mixture screw has seen better days. I found one thread about the little plug/handle thing to keep unfiltered air out, but I was wondering if anyone had another solution? I'm guessing not a lot of the cars have this anymore, but since I'm doing a major refurb I should make it right.
And since my access hole is pretty chewed up, I'm not sure which path to take. I have an extra "parts" CIS here that has a mass air flow meter with a much tidier hole that I could use. But I'm afraid of removing the fuel distributor and screwing something up. I've never done this before. Is this where I need to be cautious about the piston in the bottom of the FD falling out? Or does that happen when the FD is disassembled? I'd like to know what to expect if I should swap out my mass air flow meter. Here's a couple pics of my MAFM and its gnarly access hole (I haven't cleaned this one up yet.) ![]() ![]() And here's the one with the nicer access hole: ![]() |
