Pristine Motor Sports in Huntington Beach, CA.........How do they rate???

Fellow 911 lovers,

I purchased my first and only Porsche 1983 911 SC Coupe from Pristine back in March of 2001. Dick has been in the same location for 27 years. Has had many write up's for custom Porsche convertion projects etc. More than seems to be trust-worthy.

My question is several. First, does anyone have any experience dealing with him besides myself. Would you recomend their shop for a rebuild, etc. And how would you rate them?

Myself, since my purchase, they have been very supportive. I have zero complaints and would highly recommend them. For example, I needed a fan belt pulley wrench. It sells for like 34 dollars. My car did come with a tool kit, but that was missing. Last week he not only sold me, (on my request to pay something.... $5 dollars vs. free) but installed my belt at no charge. I bought the car 2 years ago....and do self-maintenance!!!

I probably did pay a grand more than I could have gotten a compairable car from the Auto-Trader, etc. But the support and continual "help" that they provide has proven to be more than worth it. IMYHOP. My ??? and concerns have never been unanswered or neglected. Part number needed???..given..quote for a future project??? Always answered and given a fair bid. Usually "SHOCKING" Until I reasearch and find out how much most people pay. They have always been very competitive. And do specialize in original quality restoration.

Good or bad....I plan on sending Dick your responses. Pelican being the #1 BBS for us older 911 owners, I am sure he will more than interested in your response. As I will be!

I bought my 73 911s from Dick, and he was always very honest. Great shop. A guy in the office just bought a Boxster from him and had the same comments.

I'd have to agree with 83sc's comments....Dick is a great guy and knows his Porsches. He has done alot of custom work on my 911 as well as every routine service. He even tolorates my 1000 mi. oil chance intervals !!!!

The office help is very friendly (and pretty too!!) and she knows her 911's ...part #'s, model variations, weaknesses and strengths of each year as well. To go in there and think she's just "the girl at the front desk" is a big mistake..!!!

But I might be just a tad partial...

Just an update....on how I came by Pristine Motor Sports......

Myself, I had been a wanna-be 911 owner since I was a kid in the early 70's. Having moved to Hawaii from Huntington Beach in 1977 I had my first real taste of a 911 in 1982. I was 18 and working as a Bar Tender/Bar Back/Cook/Janitor/Maintenance Technician/Band Groupie/Occasional Monday Night DJ/Slave at a place called the Vanishing Point in Kapaa, Kauai. Jay, the owner purchased a beautiful black 1975 steel wide-body conversion with a built-up 2.7. Cam, Carbs, etc. I think he got a "discount" for the unpaid "tab" the PO had. He paid $10,000- tab . (It was the only 911 on the island at the time!) To make a long story short, I soon added a new duty to my job description. "Executive Porsche Detailer." I will never forget the nights Jay drove me home. There were 2 hair pin curves on the way up the mountain. Every night we'd take it up another 5mph. Until the rear met the front. I am still not positive if the car lost it or Jay had a few too many screwdrivers that night. As the dust settled, thankfully no-harm done. Porsche and occupants were AOK.

Forward to 2001. After a marriage, divorice and married agian. And yes! I did up-grade to a newer, sexier model...*WINK*...And thanks to pulling out of the stock market in the highs of 2000, I finally had some extra cash to invest in my dream. My own 911. Here's where Pristine comes into the picture.

The comapany that I was working for at the time sales manager was an old- time professional sprint car racer. We talked cars, etc. A lot. When I spoke of my interest in buying a 911, he mentioned that his brother in-law was a Porsche fanatic. Also that he was a lead mechanic for the Penskie racing team. In years past he had sold to and purchased several cars from Dick and had nothing but praise for him. And that I should give him a call. That I did, and 2 days later I was driving home in My83SC.

New decision to make. I am due to refinace my house. I haven't in 9 years. To say the least, I am paying way too much and I should be able to take out a substantial sum and still have lower payments. Part of which I plan using to either rebuilding my beloved SC to new...or sell it (God....I feel like I am cheating on her when I say that) and purchase a newer car. Perhaps even a 993! It definately is a buyers market now compaired to when I got mine. Just a darn hard choice to make!

What do you think??? I am sure that I will involve Pristine Motor Sports, what ever way I choose.

Why thanks John. I know she can still turn heads...even with a few grey hairs!

I have always liked polished Fuchs. I really think they stand out. Also, not being chromed, just polished, they are very easy to maintain. As I am sure you can testify to. Now, if I could only go bigger! LOL.......Just another grand...and they'd be mine...all mine!

Pristine is located at 225 5th st. in downtown Hunt. Bch. From Belmont Shores go south on PCH to HB, then just before the pier turn left on 5th st. they are 2 blocks up on the left, corner of 5th & Olive. Can't miss it, always 911's for sale out front.

Mon/Wed/ Fri are the best days as you'll get to meet the nice girl behind the front desk.

Hey Johnny Riz ...

Dude,

I love the silent undercurrent going on here. I'm simply laughing my fool head off.

And what is this 1000 mile interval stuff? I bet you adjust your valves ever 3000 miles, huh? Sicko

Nice pictures of the Little Red Wagon, by the way. P-cars, I love 'em when they're wet.

I'm embarrassed to say that a few times I've had the oil chgd at 600 mi. and usually the valves are adjusted every oil change.

Since I'm exposing myself, I might as well 'fess up to the trans fluid....chg'd every 2k with Swepco.

Case in point: I had 800 mi. on the oil after Monterey and had both trans and engine oil changed prior to CFoS.

Can you say: F R E S H

John and Gloria are two of the nicest Porsche people you'll ever meet -- even if he does change his oil more often than I change my socks.

Fast foward 11 years.... If you happened to be looking at a car on Dick's lot today, how would you handle a PPI? Not needed? Suggest another shop?

Just curious.
