86 with funny lock issue, Need Help

So my driver door will lock with the key however NOT with the knob from the inside? It just does not move when you try to twist it. I can see the linkage trying to move but it only wiggles around a millimeter of two never fully turning?

I replaced the broken linkage socket thinking I had it solved but still no go?

I can lock the doors with the central lock system using the passenger side door (key) and the passenger side knob works. Any one know what might be happening with my driver side lock that does not allow the knob to function but all else still works?

Thanks!

Hans

Not an answer, just a thought. Maybe a question first. Are you doing this with the door open or closed? By design you can't lock the driver's door with it open. Keeps you from locking your keys in the car. With the door closed knob should work. The only way the door knows it's closed is when the latch is tripped. My thought being there has to be some interaction between the latch and the knob. That's were I'd start looking. -J

Man you're right, it does work when the door is closed. I never noticed the difference, good call.
This has become an issue because I cannot lock both doors with the driver door key (passenger side won't respond to the driver side key) So right now I have to reach over and manually lock the passenger side or get out and lock both doors with the key from the passenger side.

Well now I know so I'll just focus on the passenger side lock to see if I can get it to respond to the key.

Thanks!
