case seal
I am rebuilding my 911 3.o L and am following our host book on rebuilding 911 engines and am at the point to put the case halfs together. He states to put sealer on both sides of the case, Is this necessary?. I raced and built VW ENGINES AND NEVER put sealer on but one side of the case. I was always afraid that it would squics and get on the main bearingsI would like some info on this as its a long way back in there to correct a oil leak
Thanks |

Depending on the sealant, if only on one side then the sealant tacks before you get the unsealed side together and there is possibly an oil leak because the sealant never sealed the clean side.
574 sealant doesnt skim over so it can be one sided. Avation Permatex skims and still leaks when applied to one side. 3 bond or Yamabond needs to be applied to both sides There is more sealants but these are things I have seen be a problem. None of these sealants should be in any quanity close to the bearings as you dont seal the inside webs. Bruce |
