?? On Installing the Fan on the Alternator
Installing my newly powder coated fan on the newly rebuilt alternator. I hope this makes sense:
Question: do you just push the fan down on the alternator shaft as far as it will go using the big nut? I really didn't pay attention to where the fan was seated when I pulled it and definitely do not want to seat it to far if that is possible.

The fan sits right on the alternator with the large 22 mm bolt on the outside. Follow this link for some good picture of an alternator rebuild. Try a search as well as there r many topics written on this subject. I just completed mine last month.

I wouldn't use the nut (NOT bolt) to seat the fan. The threads weren't designed for that purpose. It should slip on with a little force. If was properly powder coated the inner surface of the mounting hole should be paint free. If not, you're gonna have to remove the paint from that area, and without damaging the surface in any way.

74-911,
I wouldn't use the nut to cinch the fan down as it should just slide down on the shaft with a slight feel of a interference fit. Just look closely at the fan to ensure their is no powdercoat on any mating surfaces. If you are in doubt check the fan pulley is aligned with the crankshaft pulley. Cheers Bill
