shifter boot options

Hi guys,
I have a 1984 3.2 Carerra (915 trans) with factory short shift kit. The Rubber, bellows-type shift boot pretty much swallows up the whole shift lever. Is there a rubber boot that will fit, but stays down lower, to expose more of the lever?
Thanks,
Dave

I believe Alan Gun makes a leather shift boot for the 915, but I think it also reaches up quite far on the shift lever. Someone may be able to post a picture.

My '84 doesn't have a short shift, but the bellows doesn't seem to reach as far as your's appears to.

Thanks, Jack. I think I would really prefer a low style rubber boot. Leather is beautiful, but seems too luxurious for this project.

Yours is raised much higher on the lever than it should be. You can slide the boot down lower; glue it, or clamp it, if it doesn't stay where you want it.

How about no boot?

Actually I may put the boot back in place once I have the new carpet installed. At least I'm thinking about it.

Mine is installed on the raised ring on the shifter shaft. I was thinking of just sliding it down and using a black zip-tie to hold it there.
Thanks,
Dave

I don't think I would get one, but the most interesting

Was the dried Kangaroo sack that some guy stretched over his shifter ball! Talk about an organic feel!

The raised ring is for the leather boot that was fitted to the shifter from 1985-on. Since your shifter was added at some point, whoever installed it decided to not remove the ring.

Thanks, I'll look at it more closely, and try to remove it, or just ignore it.
