'72T MFI nearly running perfect,(well very good)
Valves, linkages, timing, start solenoid/thermo time sw.,thermostats both, points, all done.
Did initial adjustment of pump. I expected it to be lean. Took it to a workshop who I do some work for, they put it on their machine. The co was less than 2. Which was pretty much what I expected. BUT the hydrocarbons were very high. This means a lot of unburnt fuel. I checked my leads and plug ends, all very close at around 2.9K The car had been running very rich before (plugs always fouled) I only drove five miles before testing. Question; Do you think the hydrocarbon reading could be from it running rich before or is it only a measurement of current exhast gases. I have just richened it two clcks, put in new plugs, BP 6ES and will retest as time permits. (old plugs had de fouled with lean mix of co of less than 2) (car runs very well) Jeff 911T |

Does the car exhaust smell really fumey? Sounds like you're running rich. You might want to lean it out a couple notches rather than richen it up a couple notches.

No it's lean for sure.
That's what is confusing me. I was pretty sure I set it lean, I gave it just enough. The machine confirmed it's lean (less than 2 co) and the plugs reconfirmed it. I was hoping somebody else has been in the same situation and says, just take it out for a good blast, or you'll have to change your exhaust because it's "full" or whatever. Jeff 911T |
