911 w/ a roof rack
So I picked up a bike rack for my e28 a couple months back, and checking on the Yakima site it turns out the same parts will work on the 911, so it was time to check the fitment. I am happy to say the 911 makes a perfect bike carrier, plenty of room on top for two bikes, and the trunk was the perfect size to fit the massive 29er wheels. Finding new uses for the 911 is always a good thing, and now I have another excuse to drive 911 up into the mountains.

Have you ever considered matching gold carrera scripts on your car? It looks good with the wide rears, bud...

I have thought about going with the side carrera scripts, but I am not sold on the gold fuchs yet, so I am holding off on any thing to complement them.

I still have my old Yakima rack from years ago. I have been wondering if it would fit. Looks like it just might.
Nice car, by the way.

I have Yakima racks, but use the 'Boa' bike racks instead - the beauty of the Boas is that they don't connect the front and back bars together - ie there's no tray running parallel to the bike. Here's a pic:
![]() The other thing I do -- When I take my racks off of the car, I spin the towers (the parts that go into the rain gutter) 180 degs. By doing this, I can easily slip the racks into the car, on the floor behind the front seat. I leave them in the car most of the time - really handy if I meet my wife somewhere while she's on her bike; we can just whip out the racks and throw the bike on the roof anytime! You just need to (ever so slightly) loosen the bolt that connects the tower to the round bars, to allow the towers to spin. cheers Al

Al,
How do those look on the car? I thought about getting some trays like that, but given that my bike is 1/2 the length of the car I didn't think I would be able to get the bars far enough to make it work. Kipp, If your old towers are designed to work rain gutters odds are that they will fit on the 911. As for my car, thank you, it is a work in progress but I am very happy with how it is coming together. |

and... because the rain gutters extend all the way down the rear window, you can carry some really long stuff....

Nice pic. I am actually picking up a rack as well for my annual trip out to Lake Placid. I don't want to keep all my smelly lacrosse stuff in the car so it will go in the roof box.

Here you go -
![]() I line the front towers up with the edge of the sunroof, and the back towers with the rear window. I can quite comfortably fit my and my wife's bikes on there at the same time, and they're very secure - around town or on the freeway.

Any yakima or Thule with gutter rail towers will work. Not sure if they make the gutter towers anymore but they are plentiful on the bay.

I have that poster in my office. It was hanging in my local bike shop for 20 years. I told my buddy who owns the shop how I always liked it and he pulled it off the wall and handed it to me. I rode a klein rascal for years.
