The RUF I had before had "speedline" on the inside and I believe it was manufactured in Italy

Ruf never made the wheel themselves, they got established wheel manufacturers to make them on their behalf.
There were at least 3 versions of the Ruf Classics I believe; original Speedlines were long unobtainium (apart from NOS in attics, which still turn up to this day) and Ruf partnered with AVUS (who make wheels for F1 and AMG racing, amongst others) to do another run sometime around 2000: The "New" RUF Wheels a review Apparently the AVUS production run sold out, and they didn't wait 10 years to do another... I don't know who made those. There was also at least one minimalist website selling Ruf knock-offs very cheaply (seem to recall $400 per wheel). Don't know anything about those. Think they purported to be in Florida, but they could have been anywhere. And the wheels could have been anything (ever seen a $50 "Garrett" turbo from eBay dismantled? Hilarious...). Quote:
Valve stem deflection can be a serious concern at high speeds. Tequipment (the official Porsche-branded accessory shop in the dealers) used to sell little aluminum brackets you could stick to your wheel to support the valve and prevent it deflecting so much it pulled out of the wheel. The valves used by Ruf negate the need for that, because it just isn't going anywhere. At least the first two versions of the Ruf Classic had a bead suitable for Denloc run-flat tires - they can run regular rubber as well.

Those may be replicas. There's an ad in the classifieds right now for a real one, if you want to see the differences. Lot's of differences...

They maybe avus because there is no steeped lip.
I think the original speedline ruf wheels have a stepped lip and dunlop (brand) on the inside of the wheel. There was a company in New Zealand selling them as cybers and they were soo cheap. 5x114.3 but still had the 5x130 stamping on the inside. Not sure what type I have I just know they make me smile every time I drive my car. ![]() |

A quick and nasty way to judge if you have Spedlines is to pick them up and weigh them in your hands. If they are as heavy as hell you have cheap Italian fakes. If they are light, something in the ballpark (maybe a bit heavier) of a Fuchs you have a Speedline.
Don't ask me how I know this ![]() |

I think the Ruf wheels weigh in the neighborhood of 28 pounds.
