Up and running after 12 years

I bought my 80SC in February 1991from a guy in Astoria Queens New York and it looked like this. There were some issues with the paint but from a distance the car looked great. In February 1994 I was transferred to San Diego and my car became a daily driver instead of only in the summer.

This is the car in December 2002 when I pulled it into my garage in Camarillo, CA to start the tear down. As you can see I had a fender bender that's why the replacement fender in primer. The insurance would not pay for a full repaint so I decided to take the money and do the work myself. It seems I got a little carried away.

March 2003, Stripped down to the galvanized chassis. I built a rotisserie from plans I found on the internet.

Built a spray booth in my garage out of heavy mill plastic and 1X2'' boards. Laid down heavy construction paper on the floor and had two box fans with filters. I was able to create a positive pressure in the booth by running the supply fan on high and the exhaust fan on medium.

January 2005 The car is partially is assembled and I had to just get the suspension and brakes in the car working. Installed glass and bolted the engine in place. I was being transferred back to Long Island and I need the car to be a roller for transport.

The car sat on a 4 post lift in my garage on Long Island from May 2005 until July 2013. At this time, I am retired and all of the house remodeling has been done so I can start back up on the car.

This is the car today, just got the engine installed/running. Need to sort out spongy brakes, suspension, and interior.

Fantastic project! Shame on you for hiding it from us for so long ;)

8 years of walking by it...you are a stronger man than I.

Car looks great, what a fantastic self retirement gift.

Way to see it through. It only gets sweeter mile after mile once you're back on the road. Enjoy.

Great job!!!!

I really don't know how you were able to get it back together after that long. I lose parts if they are off the car for longer than a month.

That's patience. So great to see a stalled project finally completed & rolling.

Perseverance is an admirable quality. Well done.

Awesome project and skills set.

I certainly wouldn't mind if you want to share the plans for the rotisserie and more photos of your paint booth. ;)
