I have an 85 911 Porsche non Factory Turbo Look with the big whale tail . Now I am putting a factory 3.3 85 Turbo engine in the car . Is there a difference between the decklids of Carrera 85 and Turbo 85 GrayMarket ?There is a condencer , I think for AC,does that have to be moved ? Thankyou for any help . John

I am not 100% sure. I opened a post in our forums. A Pelican community member may be able to answer your question.

930s had a narrower condenser, since the intercooler took up half the area under the grill.

What you can't see on the 3.3 930 decklid - because the turbo tail base covers it entirely - is that the cutout on a 930 decklid is about twice as deep as the cutout on an N/A decklid. Because the 930 decklid has to clear the intercooler (which is mounted directly on top of the motor, almost sitting on the fan shroud). On an N/A car with a turbo tail, it's probably unlikely you'd have the intercooler shrouding inside the tail grille - because it'd serve no purpose on an N/A car. I think the A/C condensor is in the same place for an M491 or 930 car, but don't know. There is a 930-only decklid hinge for the right-hand side, which has a fitting for an extra factory gas strut to support the weight of the turbo tail assembly. These are not hard to fabricate and/or duplicate (most later cars apparently already have the fitting on the firewall under the engine sound mat to receive the right-hand gas strut). There are also kits to fit an extra strut to the left-hand hinge (or you can use a heavy-duty strut), but with either of these approaches some note that the extra pressure causes the decklid gaps are incorrect, or that the left hand side is higher, when the lid is closed. If you try to use stock N/A brakes, suspension and/or transmission with a 930, you'll note their limitations quickly. Lots of guys in the 930 forums have experience with forced induction conversions on 911's or 930 transplants, see or post there for caveats/suggestions.
