Run two tests before you reinstall your alternator.

Your battery will need to be connected during the tests so make sure the red wires that connect to the alt are not in contact with anything.

Ground the “blue” wire from the warning lamp in the engine compartment. Check whether the warning lamp is lit with (1) the key removed, and (2) the key in the run position.

Picked up the alternator.

Saw him test it on his bench. Works perfectly...for an alternator with internal VR! Yup. It doesn't need the external VR. When I swapped my old alternator out, this is what I was given in return...never thought twice.
Did a search and it looks like I disconnect the black wire to the back of the alternator, just tape it off. Then I remove the VR and tie off those wires. Should be good to go...right?
