We hit 353 rwhp on the dyno, factor in a 15% drivetrain loss it was about 415 hp at the crank.

That 415crank HP is insane!!!! No wonder it was a little pricey - phew. OZracer, that Dixon engine mod does look very approachable. Im curious what a build like that might costs these days, but it certainly will get me close to my power goal. |

The engine was built with among other things 2" NASCAR bearings, stroked and drilled crank and cams that were good for 8600 rpm redline, it made power straight thru the redline. Loved that beast.

For the OP (and our) edification, can somene post links to the P's & C's you'd use to achieve the 3.5L pump gas motor?

Oh those clean engines with no heat and no A/C look so pretty!
...and when they make that kinda horsepower - LOOK OUT. I have done some investigation to see where to find 100mm P&C and it looks like the upper cost range are made by Mahle and then everyone else seems to use a combination of JE pistons and QSC sleeves. I'd look for a tired 3.6 and then rebuild it with slight modifications rather than paying top $$$ for a "gently used" engine and taking a risk.
Mine is a '92 964 and during the rebuild the only mods I decided to do were ARP rod bolts, slightly happier cams, and a chip. I got the heads and cylinders machined to accept fire rings to address potential leaking. I guess I am slightly under the 300HP mark but it is plenty to get around town. My curb weight is around 2400 lbs with a full tank of gas. If I need faster I would start thinking about loosing weight. |

I'll add that w/ 915 i'd be leery of a brute motor, I wasn't at all happy w/ the stress the 3.8RS put on the 915 in my car, I could make the sides weep w/ heavy acceleration on the lower gears, a slightly warmed 3.6 seems to live much happier w/ the 915, I can still make it weep but not so easily |
