Computer Help.... please?

Okay, don't laugh.... You know when you are home alone and can't help but sneek a peek at the websites you know your wife won't like? Well I just had to "click here for free porn" didn't I?

How the hell do I get rid of the constant spam emails I now recieve???!!!

I now know not to "click here"

Is there a website or program I can download that helps filter this sort of thing?

Don't flame me too bad.....

Try using another email program, like Pegasos. It has email blocking ability with some sort of intelligence.

Also, you could try searching Tucows for software that prevents spam messages.

John,

You didn't actually give them your real e-mail address to log on did you? If so, time to get a new e-mail address.

If you are worried about leaving any traces on your computer, make sure to clear your browser cache and history, otherwise your wife will see where you've been.

Oh dear... Yes Neil I did give them the real one

Not too worried about the wife seeing... She's been to "Manpower" and the "Chippendales" herself

Evren, will this kind of filter work on my current email, or should I get a new one and be more careful?

Cheers

Actually, John, get a new one but keep the old one. Use the old one when you need to give one to some business / website / ect that is untrust worthy and / or may sell it to some "mailing lsit". Use the new one for your friends and truly trusted web sites.

As for the old email address and spam? Yes you are toast. Sorry

There is a website called MailWasher that you can use to filter out all of this stuff. It's actually a free download that does so much more than I can explain here...just visit the site and I'm sure this will help.

Randy, thanks very much for that link. I'll be setting it up and giving it a run this evening.

Cheers

Most standard mailing list agents have an "unsubscribe" facility. What this means is if you reply to the email with the word unscubsribe then your email address should be removed from the list and you will not get any more. OR email the system administrator of the web site.......asking to please be removed......and promise that your wife will give you a good spanking for looking at the porn......obviously the spanking is optional ( replace with your personal favourite ).

You should be able to be removed without the need for filters. Filters only stop the emails at your system, you really need to stop then from being sent. Which means that you retain your original email address.

Another thing to do is log back into the site and see if there is a remove precedure.........lets face it you have already been exposed...so to speak..... so there is no risk. Just try some self control and limit the time spent in the site.

PS......very brave telling everyone.......masocist!
