Goldcrest Motorsports Kennesaw, GA Wow!
5 Stars for Keith and the guys at Goldcrest Motorsports in Kennesaw, GA.
Had the bottom end of my 3.0 rebuilt. Goldcrest allowed me to supply the parts which I liked. Keith did a fantastic job of cleaning and rebuilding the engine. He was a pleasure to talk to and when I brought up my concerns he was polite and respectful. Not one of those "I've been doin this for 40 years so just trust me" type of guys. He explained things to me in a way that reinforced my decision to have Goldcrest do the work. When I dropped off the bottom end rebuild parts I didn't know it but I was shorted a few pieces from my supplier. Goldcrest took it upon themselves to get the parts on their own and continued working on my engine without missing a beat. When I showed up to drop off the remaining parts that came in 3 business days later; they had already completed my engine and simply took the late arriving parts for their inventory and didn't charge me a penny. Wow I was impressed. They also made me up a factory looking ground cable and repainted my engine oil sump plate at no additional charge and without being asked. They just took care of these two raggedy looking pieces to match my fresh bottom end rebuild. Mike in the office communicated with me extremely well. This place has it all going on: friendly people, top notch communication, high quality work, attention to detail, went above and beyond the service requested, and the invoice matched the quote. I highly recommend these guys. It may not be the cheapest place around but I feel that I got more than what I payed for. And lets face it...somewhere else MAY have quoted me a couple hundred less at best...but would it have turned out this good? No way! Another plus...the parking lot is full of BAD@$$ cars....takes me 10 minutes to walk in the front door cause I'm checkin out the parking lot. Last edited by garrett490; 08-19-2014 at 08:00 PM.. |

Did Bob take you back into the warehouse? They have a brand new (116 miles on it) GT3 that they are converting to full race. I sat there for 30 minutes just drooling.. lol.

Sounds like great service.
Did they talk you through the break in procedure or do it for you?

Bob and Steve are among the best in the business. They've been great friends to my business and instrumental in both my Cup Car and Cayman gearbox programs. They were the first pro operation to real life "test" my new sequential parts, by putting them in Brumos/Leh Keen's 24 Hour Daytona car. I can't personally say enough about how true they are to the fraternity of Porsche racers.
And as the above testimonial shows, they don't have big heads either and haven't left the average p-car owner behind because they are too busy being racers. |

Goldcrest
I resonate everything garrett490 & Matt say concerning Goldcrest. Particularly about the interaction with the customer. These are very knowledgeable and experienced Porsche guys who happen to be just about the most friendly I have ever had the pleasure of meeting!
I took my RSR tribute to them about 2 weeks ago for an alignment and corner balance. I had checked with several operations in the Atlanta area. After doing a little research, I found myself being somewhat intimidated by the caliber of cars they seem to work on. My thought was they wouldn’t be interested in messing with an older 911. After speaking with Mike and providing a little info on the car, we set a date for me to come in. I decided to go with Goldcrest for a number of reasons….. but mostly because of their willingness to allow me to hang out in the shop and observe while my car was being worked on! I got there earlier in the morning and discussed with Steve and Adam what my intended use for the car was: track, street, etc….basically how I wanted the car set up. The guys were really friendly and welcoming. I was given a full tour and was able to get really close to some of the cars they had there. Really an incredible experience. Everyone there took the time to say hello and welcome me to their shop. My car was given pretty much a full inspection/going over, and I received a lot of compliments. Bob took the time to talk to me about his experiences with a number of 3.2l issues. He even made copies of service documents that I could use in the future. Adam and another young tech did the alignment and corner balance. The difference in the car’s handling and performance was like night and day. I do not hesitate to recommend these guys to anyone. And they seem to do it all. You will not be disappointed. ![]() ![]() ![]()

Ditto all the positive comments above.... Goldcrest did a top end refresh on my car about 3 weeks ago. Couldn't be happier. They let me stop by and see the work in progress and spent as much time as I wanted answering questions and reviewing what all was being done.
They know their stuff, are friendly, honest, reasonable rates, and take pleasure in what they do. Don't let the high $$$ GT3 cars all around spook you. They treat me with my "lowly" stock old 911 just the same. I won't go anywhere else in the ATL area. Truly the best around! And the new 991 Cup car they showed me was super sweet. They even let my son sit in it!

Have you done a build thread yet? Serisoulsy glad the improvement was noticeable, when ever I do it I notice a big difference too. I bet it would be even better if they did it.

They do corner balancing? I have been looking for a place to do that and have come up empty. I'll have to give them a call after I get the new suspension done.

Thanks for the compliments Erik. No worries, maybe sometime in the future we'll have the chance to meet up.
I have not done a build thread yet, I might start something one of these days. I do have pics of the almost 5 year process. I did a preliminary setup in my garage. I used a bubble gauge and my calibrated eyeball. I drove it that weekend, and it was not bad. But I didn't feel comfortable trying to manuver at speed. Once Adam got the strings setup and checked the initial settings, he said it was actually pretty close to correct. It must have been the scale/wt balancing work that made the big difference in the way the car handles. |

My first experience with them was a few years back. I had my car aligned, ride height reset and corner balanced. My car was new to me and my first 911, so I really didn't know how it was supposed to handle. I did know if felt off and the ride height was different from side to side so I wanted it looked at and sorted out.
I dropped it off and they thoroughly checked it out. They found the front crossmember was broken in an odd spot so they found a good USED replacement (not trying to sell me on a NEW one), got it sorted and set the height to right where I wanted it. It took about a week mostly because of the crossmember replacement BUT the cool thing was the told me they got it all set, drove it, and weren't happy with it and they redid it several times until they got it dialed in just right to their liking. It drives SO MUCH BETTER after this and their attention to detail to really get it done right vs. get it done fast impressed me immensely. This is what sold me on having them redo my top end this summer and it was money well spent.

Most car places I go to don't let anyone go back there which makes me think its because its very unprofessional or they aren't actually doing what they claim to be doing....which may not be true but it just doesn't give you a real confident feeling like getting to walk through the back of Goldcrest does. And someone else asked about break in procedure....I was just going to use Wayne's instructions from his books since the motor is not ready to be started up yet. |

Oh I see, you are still assembling. Yeah that was why I even know there can be serious issues with out proper break in - Waynes book!
Great idea to have the bottom end done by pros and then assemble the top end your self. I always worry if I ever do a full re-build I will have leaks. This would allow you to avoid most of the really problematic leaks. I love it. How many hours did they quote for just the bottom end? DId you drop it off or just bring in the parts?

Wow....Chrisf! what color is that? Maybe its my monitor (iMac) but it looks like there is a hint of green in it...or is it just silver and the lighting makes it look that way. Beautiful car!

Buck: it's Ice Green Metallic (in some lighting, and around certain other cars, it does look a little more silver than green!) , the cars original color. When considering the final build, I was on the fence: A fitting early RSR color, or original to my car. Of all the colors I've seen on the 911, I find that IGM is one of the best as far as revealing the curves and contours. One of the several reasons I decided to buy it almost 10 years ago.
I need to start a thread on it, maybe post some pics on the RSR replica pics page, maybe start my own build thread. Thanks to all for the compliments. |

Not to continue bringing the thread off-topic, but holy ****, that's a beautiful car. Is there a thread around on the build, or some more pics/detail?

I think I'm going to check these guys out soon, just purchased a 1988 911 3.2 with 74k miles and I don't know how the car is supposed to feel, I think a post purchase inspection won't hurt, Alignment maybe off as well..
Do you guys know if they fabricate cat by pass tubes and how it matches up to say a Fabspeed or M&k type product? Also I see some of you are from the Atlanta area, I live near Kennesaw and would be nice to meet up and retain some knowledge from you all lol. |
