Smuggler's box question

What is the ribbed plastic tube for and where does that big round hole in the bottom of the smuggler's box go?

The ribbed tube is the drain for any water that enters via the fresh air inlet vent just at the rear of the hood. The opening is the A/C evaporator inflow duct from the driver's footwell area.

We need a place to have a real tech night for all of us in this area that isn't set up by the Vancouver ( sorry) Porsche club where us novices can ask people those questions we would rather ask between friends

That would be good!

Hey vancouver86/911 - my apologies for what looks to be a thread hi-jack of sorts.

The circular pipe does not connect to the drivers, or passenger's footwell.

That is a vestige of the Webasto heater which connects there and pulls air in from the center tunnel. Air enters through a grille that covers the shift coupler, flows up the tunnel and goes into the webasto, where it flows across a stainless steel heat exchanger, gets very hot and then flows out to the defroster and heat tubes.

I plugged mine with a cap from a plumbing supply store. Painted it black and dropped it in. Fit perfectly. Let me know if you want pic of what I did.

This is what my smuggler's box looks like in my non a/c 86 Carrera. Is it likely that this hole was covered up by someone? That holes looks like it lines up perfectly with the opening at the bottom of the evaporator blower assembly I have.

If it's a non A/C car and that's the only hole in the floor, than the hose in your picture (fresh air drain) should fit down through it.

The hole in the floor of the smuggler's box I was referring to is the huge one that is evident in the top picture of someone's car but not in the bottom picture of my smuggler's box.

+1 for an appropriate, accurate use of the word "vestige." Refreshing. (Pun intended.)

The BIG round hole next to the (US, non-ROW) steering shaft is the A/C evaporator inflow duct from the driver's footwell area.

Factory shipped non-A/C equipped, holes/ducts not there.

Does this hole need to be cut out to retro fit the stock a/c system?
