heater flapper box cable nut problem

Hi Guys,

I'm trying to replace the heater cable in my 3.2 carrera.

My problem is, the nut used to fasten the cable to the flapper box spins freely. It seems that the bolt which the nut screws onto should be fixed to the back of the box, however it spins freely together with the nut.

Any ideas besides removing the flapper box (seems access will be difficult)?

Thanks for your help!
Adam

Yeah, this one sucks, I used a needle nose vice grip to hold the nut in place while I tighten the bolt.

Awesome, I did try this at the time with normal vice grips.

I'll find some needle nose and give it another go.

Thanks!

I used a ratcheting flex head box wrench to snake up in there. It's the same size as the nut.

I used a end wrench the same size as the nut on the bolt.

M4, if I remember. 7mm heads on both the nut and bolt.

Are you replacing the cable from the bottom red slider on your dash unit to the front compartment flapper / control box? If so, I may check in with you via PM if you don't mind - I'm struggling a bit with this same project.

Thanks -

Mike

go slow - if it is the small one I am thinking of with the hole in the side to accommodate the cable wire, it will not take much torque. Ask me how I know.
