BOLO - My 911 Turbolook Targa Stolen

Please be on the lookout. My 1988 911 Turbolook Targa was stolen between 11:30PM 1/8 and 5:30AM 1/9/15 from the Beverly Hills area. Likely a professional job as this car is a genuine M491 option and very rare.
Anyone hearing anything about such a vehicle suddenly appearing in a shop or parts being offered, please contact me: bergerda@gmail.com

Sorry to hear this.

What color is the interior? Do you have sports seats or anything else that might be rare and unique to keep our eyes on the lookout for?

I really hope you get her back, she's a beauty.

What a terrible thing... so sorry you are going through this, and I hope you get your car back soon... exactly as it was before the theft.

Consider posting the VIN and, as Matt suggests, a boatload of other information about the car.

Keep us posted.

Cars like that are headed straight for a shipping container and out of the Country.

Interior is beige leather, 13inch Momo steering wheel.
VIN: WPOEB091XJS160470
Radio is a Sony with a CD auto changer in the trunk area
This car was my pride and joy.
Right now I cannot tell you how upsetting this is. Let this be a warning to all. This has to be a professional job. The car had LoJack but I'm told that professionals have a way to mask it. I fear she is gone forever, but who knows? I might get lucky and someone somewhere will see her.

These thefts seem to be on the rise, particularly in the LA area. Bastards.

I wonder if Porsche garages are somehow connected, an employee associated with a ring, unknown to the shop owner. It may sound paranoid but I wouldn't want them to know my home address (someone on Rennlist had their Porsche stolen out of their locked garage).

That's quite a unique car to ripoff. But hey, when it's sold to a collector on another continent, that doesn't much matter now does it.

Godspeed on your search and I hope that you minimally had a solid policy on the thing.

As stated previously, it seems as this is becoming more common within the past year.

Where was it parked? House? Business? Shopping?

Hope they find it, but I have not heard about many recoveries.

Professionals can mask Lo Jack?
Maybe Lo Jack should come up with an upgraded product and retrofit older units with the upgrade.

So very sorry for the situation, I wish you the best of luck in recovering your beautiful "pride and joy".

The internet is on every continent now. Simply posting the VIN here is a great start. If it does go overseas it is only valuable in parts as the VIN will show stolen for any prospective purchaser. If you know the engine ID, post that too.

Sorry for the loss.

There is some peculiar satisfaction in doing the above, but you need that, because you would really be kissing the car good-by since you will cause it to be parted out.

What a mess. When I had my Jeep stolen the police showed up about three hours after I phoned in the theft. They said, "Well, it's probably cut up by now, so start looking for a new ride."

I hope you don't have to face that.

If LoJack is based on radio waves, putting the car into a metal shipping container will block the signal.

Thanks to all who offered their condolences. The car was parked in my driveway in such a way that it could not be simply rolled out. Starting the engine would have woken me, so I know they pushed it uphill a short distance, and then rolled it out to the street where it was probably placed inside a truck. They were also able to bypass the alarm. My guess is that they were done in less than a minute or two.

I doubt I'll ever see her again, and hope this is warning to all to do whatever you can to protect your cars. With hindsight, maybe a camera system would have been a good idea, but then I might only have a video of a couple of bastards wearing masks, steal my car. Bottom line, if someone is determined enough to steal something, they will find a way to do it. Get good insurance coverage and evidence of value.

Bergerda,

Who is your insurance carrier? I currently have State Farm and have been more than happy with them but also realize I've never had a car that was not so easily replaced as my soon to be mine 911 SC. I have an appraisal from Steve Linden which I plan to furnish to my ins agent. I've talked with a few other people and my rates do seem higher than some of the locals. I am points free and have several multi-line discounts. I do not have a house at this time as the wife and I just moved here from San Diego and we are actively looking. I hope your insurance makes you as whole as possible and than you post that you were able to albeit regrettably replace your stolen 911.

~Andy
