Question regarding 2 little holes on end of camshaft
I'm wondering what the two small holes on the end of the camshaft are for.
The purpose of my question is I'm wondering if oil flows thru these holes and should I squirt a little oil in there before starting up for the 1st time after project. I also want to make sure that oil in this spot won't have negative effect on Cam Sync Sensor or is there any benefit to filling this space with oil. Thanks! ![]()

Hey Vern.
I just pulled my "someday" set of 964 cams off the shelf and blew through the two holes (bad visuals). They exit just on the other side of the cam journal and before the first lobe in the non machined portion of the casting. Don't know how it works for absolute certain but guessing they allow relief of engine oil from the cavity. Cam towers force feed oil to that end cam journal, right? Some oil will exit journal/bearing (tower bores) when running, into that cavity. Holes allow the oil to never get much above half as it drains through the two holes back into case.

Are these two holes for a camshaft driven sportomatic oil pump? Just a thought. See the link below.
How do i remove these?
