Something new from Burn-Bros

It seems he never rests.
This new product should soon be available from Burn-Bros, the same people who gave us the Marelli twin plug rotor.
Tired of that leaky sump plate?
Billet just not your style?
It will fit early and late pumps alike.
Check this out.
Cast from aluminum and machined right here in the USA.
I love it and plan to use it on all our engines.
With luck it may even be available through our hosts at Pelican Parts.
Remember, it's still in the development stage.

Very nice!

We are lucky to have people making small runs of items like this and other things... mb mufflers, SRP, Wevo, Tarrett, Elephant, Sherwood's items and on & on...

Very nice looking component! Will the counter-bores take standard nuts/sockets or will something like an Allen nut (cylinder nut) be required? All my off topic comments after this one have been deleted.

Jim, looks to me like even if the counterbores would accept the
10mm across the flat nut, you'd have a tough time getting the
socket on them. I'd guess they'd have to use an Allen, not a problem but it would add a bit to the cost of the piece...
I do like the way it looks.

For all you critics lurking out there, let's try to remember this is a proto-type.
Allen bolts will most likely be supplied with the plate.
It is common knowledge that removing the sump plate during an oil change is a waste of time so this new sump plate can be glued on and left in place indefinitely.
I'm all for that.

Hi Jim
I'm not being overly sensitive, my comment was meant as a preemptive strike against the concours gismos who want it black, who think it doesn't look stock or who just wouldn't use a non Porsche part on their baby.
Suggestions are good when solicited.
Try offering unsolicited advise to a teenager and you'll find out what it's worth.
Cheers

BTW: Don't they have three eyed people in Los Alamos, NM?

What about supplying "dome" type nuts (like Ferrari and other Italian stuff uses)? Wurth, as do others, sell them. Possibly better than wanting people to remove the exisiting studs.

Tough to put the floor jack on that plate. Looks good, though.

No, just a lot of coneheads and millionaires.
I hear the key is having your 900 sf 50 year old house burn down in a forest fire and then cashing in on a the rebuild.

I've got a college buddy 'inside the fence' at LANL. I love visiting... awsome breakfast buritos and then some world class mountain biking up on the hill.

"Three eyes" is a reference to the genetic deviations to the human species caused by exposure to the flash.

Perhaps a three foot piece of 2x8 would save this or any other sump plate.

Most testing was done in NV. Now they get to have all out nuke waste. Some disadvantages to having a very low popn.

If I remember correctly, most of the observers came from Los Alamos and strangely enough went home when to show was over. Then didn't the government play with some nasty ***** there. We all know how clever our government sub contractors can be.
But the purpose of this post was to debut this new product from Burn-Bros and my off color obscure reference has certainly derailed that train.

Looks nice, but afraid to ask how much it will cost. Good thing mine is still in good shape.

How about extending the fins 1+ cm for a little cool collar effect?

Looks great and would fit right in on an early aluminum sand-cast case

Henry, I am a dummy on this. I love new toys for the 911 as much as the next guy, but assuming you have a leaking sump, why will this one be a better alternative to the stock plate or the one by Mainley?

Possible improved features from my view:

1.) Better matches the coefficient of thermal expansion of a light metal (Al or Mg alloy) engine case.

2.) Stiffer (and possibly stronger) and more precision than the stamped steel covers.

3.) Improved thermal performance (ability to transfer heat from the oil) by virtue of aluminum's better thermal conductivity and the heat transfer fins projecting into the slip stream.

4.) Improved appearance (this is a taste issue) and will not rust.

Possible disadvantages:

1.) Wrench access and the potential need for special securing nuts.

2.) May have less impact resistance (less ductility) due to it's origin as a casting; consider what might happen if it suffers a ground strike.

3.) Aluminum drain plug hole female threads may be more prone to being stripped; will likely require a reduced tightening torque compared to OEM with the possibility of confusing servicing mechanics.

4.) May be more prone to damage during jacking and servicing.

6.) Greater cost.

6.) It likely weighs as much or more than the OEM steel version.

Las Vegas used to advertise the watching of the blast during those early testing years. Consequently, tens of thousands of Las Vegas tourists got radioactive fallout rained upon them when the winds shifted.

They are completed and have a few thousand miles of testing so for. We like them so well that we are using them on all our performance rebuilds.
You can buy them from Supertec. $78.00
I was hoping our host would offer them but as of yet, no response.

Look on Ebay for an introductory price.
Thanks for your interest.
