D-Zug 1965-94 911 HID Projector Beam Kit - Solution for HID H5s!!!
Guys,
Shameless plug for D-Zug here... ![]() A few weeks ago I began a search for how to enhance the night time drive-ability of my '87 Carrera with H5s, which are not confidence-inspiring for me, or more importantly, for my wife. The Euro H4 upgrade was an option, but I had my eye on HIDs. I quickly learned that the beam pattern of H5s is a poor fit with HIDs. H5s tend to scatter the beam, and with HIDs, this has a blinding effect to oncoming traffic. The boys at D-Zug have come up with an innovative solution. Justin from D-Zug (juicersr here on Pelican) mentioned to me that they'd come up with a plug-and-play HID kit for 911/930/964s (1964-1994). What pushed me over the edge was that hi and low beams are maintained AND a clean cut-off line that won't blind oncoming traffic. This is achieved through 46mm Bi-xenon Projectors. Here's a link to their product page: 911/930 Plug&Play HID Projector Beam Headlights There's a thread on Rennlist documenting the installation of this kit on a 964 car. It's worth a read, and hearing the feedback from a happy customer! I went ahead and pulled the trigger on a set today. While I'm impressed with the features of the kit, I was WoW'd by the great service and good-natured guys at D-Zug. They were patient in answering my numerous questions, and a pleasure to deal with. I plan to document the install of the kit on this thread. I'm going through a rebuild now, so it'll be a while until I get to see these in action. Here's a picture from one of their customer installs: ![]() One detail for guys running H5s. The kit requires the use of H1/H4 trim rings, which are very expensive to purchase new and very difficult to find used. The approach I took was to purchase a set of new Euro H4 Headlights with black trim rings (available through our host or can be found on the cheap through ebay). I plan to sell my H5s to offset the cost and just hold onto the Euro H4s in case I ever need to remove the HIDs (not that Euro H4s are legal....). There's no doubt this is an expensive upgrade, but a worthwhile one to me. The way I look at it, this adds 100 HP to my car at night ![]()

I was the lucky guy who tested the lights for the past couple of weeks on my 964.
WOW! The absolute clincher for me came during a late night in the garage...it was cold and rainy out and I though, "this would be a good time to test the lights." I don't mind driving in the rain at night, but I wouldn't say I'd take my car out then just for fun drive. In the name of product testing I went for a quick drive...that turned into a much longer drive. The more I drove the more relaxed I felt. The road in front and to the sides were clearly lit and with no oncoming lights I could push it a bit. No one was out and I was having fun! With my old H5s, I would never have felt that relaxed or drive at those speeds. I'm very impressed with these lights. I can't offer a lot of technical information on the lights (I'll leave that to D-Zug)...but I can say without a doubt that these lights offer a dramatic increase in light power over my H5s. Dramatic difference! Night driving was so much more relaxed with the increase in visibility that these lights offer. I really appreciate the efforts of companies like D-Zug who are investing/creating products that keep these old cars on the road Read more here: Let there be light: 964 HID project Let there be light: 964 HID project - Rennlist Discussion Forums

The esthetics of the lights were also a hit with all my local 911 buddies. These lights don't look out of place.
I even like the chrome rings (on a 964!)... Crazy to think the passenger headlight bucket was from a 912!

I got the beer mug for my dad for Christmas, and in the order form I asked for a special "merry christmas" note. I figured they might, MIGHT just toss it on the address sticker.
Nope, they wrote a hand made note, and put it in the mug with all sorts of stickers and stuff. Totally above and beyond for what is essentially a couple of guys busting their butts to make some crazy new items for us.

Andy, Mike, Chris, Udo; Thanks for all the kind words guys, esp since we have worked very hard over the last year to develop and bring our products to the marketplace. We are also trying to support pelicans like Fred Cook and Al Kosmal with their innovative products as well.
Our HID kit was the result of us wishing to 'build a better mousetrap' - namely a good looking, proper projector beam HID kit the did not require cutting of the bucket for ballast on install. Thanks to Pete's resourcefulness and engineering work, I think we think we have succeeded in creating a clean, modern HID lighting system for the 911/964. ![]() BTW Andy, Pete should be shipping your set out this week, as the 3200lumen 5k sets finally arrived ![]()

That looks great and the price is very fair. I am not a fan of aftermarket HIDs but mainly because of the cheap Taiwanese and Chineses flea market kits that people have been installing in their lifted trucks including the fog lights that blind you.
After reading this thread, I might have to reconsider this and install it in my 930. Regards - Yasin

My experience, working with Justin and the crew at D-Zug, has been great. They are true enthusiasts that are focused on bringing high quality, innovative products to other enthusiasts. The support has been excellent. They are straight shooters and truly do work hard to ensure that the "better mousetraps" make it to the market. regards, al the x-faktory

Koizumi - I haven't seen any yet, but I'll hopefully be installing them on my 3.2 in a week or two. I'll document the install here.

I received a present in the mail today...
Check 'em out! These are good lookers and true plug 'n play. Notice the 3M adhesive strips to be on the ballasts. Just remove the plastic and mount to the rear of the headlight assembly. The lenses are impressive - real nice and think glass. Can't wait to install them!

Glass, eh? Is it a factory Porsche or VAG part? And is that a city light in the reflector underneath the DE lens? Right in the bottom of the frame or whatever it's called that is holding the reflector, it looks like a hole. Is it? That's where I would expect a city light to be mounted...
Looks good. Nice to have a bolt in solution that looks to be engineered properly. Be sure to keep us in the loop with your install and results.
