Which speakers for my rear deck

Curious to know what size speakers to install in my 79SC rear deck. I have purchased rear deck speaker covers from Matt Kellett.

Try Google or Amazon, and search for 4"x6" "plate" speakers. They are the easiest to
adapt as they are made to fit most any application.

Subwoofer

Meanwhile I just put a new radio in my SC, along with this:

Kenwood Compact Self contained Subwoofer from Amazon: $157.

It fits under the passenger seat, is attached to the floor with velcro, and increases the viability and sound of the entire system incredibly! I couldn't believe the sound!

A lot of audio guys recommend not having rear speakers at all. They don't make the music any louder up front, they don't add bass in 4x6, and they kinda mess with the sound stage.

A subwoofer would make a world of difference, but it's a more complicated project. I wonder if any small subs will fit in the rear decks...Probably makes more sense to go with a little one under the seat.

I'm curious to see if anyone has tried the new shallow-mounts from Pioneer.

Wouldn't be in the back though. It would either be under the seat (can't do that on mine, already have the amp there), or somewhere in the passenger footwell.

I think shallow-mount drivers still require tight, properly-sized enclosure. Some companies sell "free-air"/infinite baffle subwoofer drivers that can be used without an enclosure, but they have their own challenges.

I decided not to install any in the rear, and just splurge on nicer 6.5 components for the front, with a small Class D amp under the drivers seat. Sounds great.

I recently upgraded my system with a 2 channel amp under the driver seat and a slim sub under the passenger. Also the sound deadening treatment on the doors to improve the enclosure for the 6.5 Focals.

No rear speakers. Sound is great and I don't feel any need to put anything in the back.

I installed 5x7 speakers replacing the Sony 4x6 speakers in the back tray. The mounting depth was about 1' 1/2 which helped when I placed the tray back in place. They gave better bass than the 4x6 but adding a under the seat sub would really make a difference.

I used the Kicker Hideaway. Fits neatly under the seat.

Nice.

I wish they made the same size but not powered. I was looking to bridge the two channels that power the rear to power a sub that size.

I purchased some Blaupunkt GTx 462 4x6 150watt speakers four yrs ago. When I purchased car.
However, I still have the original Reno 45 radio. Speakers are better than the sun damaged originals.
Of the stereo is old school tech.
Put Blaupunkt GTx 542 in the front door pockets.

Head units are already bridged internally, such that they cannot be bridged from 4 channel amps to 2 or 2+1 channel amps.

I was referring to my 4ch amp under the seat. Sorry if that wasn't clear in my first post.

I just took these out of my turbo as I took the car back to bone stock. Z-Box enclosures and custom rear deck speakers. Maybe someone could use this stuff. Sounded absolutely awesome in the car.The stock stuff is really a compromise but that is how it left the factory so...

Z-Box Enclosures. They replace the side panel in the rear where the front seat shoulder belt anchors are. Seat belts still install the same way as stock.
