Vacuum Hose?

Hi all,

Putting the finishing touches on replacing all the old vacuum hoses. However this one hose (the gray one) that disappears into the body, I have no idea what it is for and where begins and where it ends Could this be for the cruise control?

Thanks for your help.

Gary

Diameter? Could be the vacuum hose to the brake booster as it looks pretty big.

Dennis,

For the '78 SC, the brake vacuum hose from the air box is connected to a metal tube (driver side engine bay) and goes through the tunnel and out to the front luggage compartment by the brake booster. Maybe someone installed a separate vacuum line to the brake booster?

Gary,

Check the metal tube connection for the brake booster (engine bay). You might have one already connected. The cruise control vacuum hose is pretty small compared to the one you have in the picture. Are the carbon cannister hoses all accounted for? Keep us posted.

That looks more like some of the fuel hose found in the low pressure areas on my SC, my brake booster lines were a very stiff hose.

Vapor recovery?

Thanks for checking in gents. From what I have learned I think the brake vacuum is the one that has the brass nipple coming off the air box. (photo 1) From that it connects to a rubber vacuum line that is routed through the driver side corner of the engine compartment(photo 2) and runs along with the fuel lines and attached to the left of the canal that runs through the car. (photo 3) I replaced that rubber hose as well so it is new, however I cut it to the original length of the old one so there is a braided hose that attached to the nipple and then a connector in that to attach to the rubber hose. i.e. it's clamped. I borrowed photo's attached.

The second opening on the air box next to it, (with the 3 arrows pointing at it), this is the one I think goes to the second and or bigger opening of the charcoal cannister. But not sure that's why I am checking with the brain trust.

But this brings me back to that vacuum line in the center of engine compartment. If I have the above correct, then I still don't know where this line goes.

This is a 1978 California specific built car. I did remove the AC and also have removed the cruise control.

Thanks again for any help or advice.

Gary

The one with the 3 arrows goes to the charcoal canister. On my '82 SC it's been siliconed up by a PO. I think this is because over time (30 years) the charcoal breaks down and the engine vacuum starts to suck it into air box. On the back of the charcoal canister I *think* the thin lines comes from the fuel tank vent and the thick one is the one that joins up with the air box that's marked with the 3 arrows.

If the hose in your picture is just laying in the hole in the cross member then it is the larger hose that connects to the cruise control on the left side rear of the engine bay. The larger hose that goes to the cruise control is just laid in the back of the cross member and is vented to atmosphere. The other smaller hose on the cruise control goes to a connection on the air box.

Pretty sure that is the large vent hose for cruise control. My 81 has it tucked into the same hole in body. Atmospheric vent open on the end. Toss it.

What is cruise control?
The only options on my car are a drivers side only power mirror and full leather interior.
No power windows, door locks, A/C or any of the U.S. Market luxury additions.
Almost primitive.

Hi you don't have a list of the hoses and diameters (ID OD) you replaced? That would be fantastic as pet is a little vague on the vacuum hose detail.
