Floormats for those who drive on the wrong side of the road
Hi,
I need new floor mats as the original carpet in my car is virginal. This is because two heroic floor mats willingly laid down their lives for this worthy cause. They will be ceremoniously buried with full military honour. (Flung over neighbours fence). The problem is, apparently you can only get 84-89 mats (are SC mats the same?) in LHD format. Nobody even makes aftermarket mats for those of us cursed by the evil British empire. The prospect of installing them upside down is not appealing to me. Please say it isn't so.

Putting them on the wrong side is the easy part, FishCop says doing it upside down is the problem.

I would contact Lloyd Mats and ask them if they would custom make you a set of mats by turning their US patterns updside down. Coco Mats is a smaller company, and they do coco mats. They might be willing to do an upside down mat as well. Your best bet, however, is probably Jorgy's. They're a small operation that specializes in custom floor mats. My guess is, of all of these, they'd be the most willing to turn a pattern over and make a set of "Oz" mats.
It's a long-shot, but maybe one of these companies might be willing to help out a Porsche brother down under. Good luck.

Victor, I've seen some good results from your friendly neighborhood upholsters type guys. That way you get to choose your carpet colour and thickness. It's often cheaper than paying for the freight out here to the colonies.

Another possibility...last time we carpeted here, Cindy found a carpet company that sewed "edgeing" on the scraps, making her several custom sized throw rugs. So, you might check with carpet companies as well...those folks who sell the wall to wall stuff, and do installs.

I had mine made by an upholsterer. Just give him/her the old ones as a stencil and tell him/her what colour you are after. $70 in black for me.

I vote with nick-moss: Southbound in the UK.
David Nunn of Southbound sources genuine Porsche fabrics from Germany. Not especially cheap but you just have to experience the quality. Al G |

There is another option Victor, remove the virginals and go bare metal........ Tonka Tough. Then again, Roo hides are cheap at the moment!

Just an overnighter for business. I really like Wellington. Lunch at Shed 5, met some local lovelies in the Arizona, visited an upstairs pool hall and had a great bowl of Pasta at Nilolinis in Courtney Place. Finished up drrinking with some very large Somoans at a football club night in a sports bar.....
Great conversation starter in a Wellington bar #1 - "so do you think Aus and NZ will merge in our lifetime?" stuart |

If you end up back in town give me a call and we'll do a pizza at One Red Dog. I'm in the phone book.
Actually I was in Sydney last week for a couple of days. I didn't try to catch up with anyone as I was rotten drunk as I got off the plane then just got in next taxi to Prarramatta. Great weather! |
