New H4 headlights just arrived_question
Just received my H4's today and was wondering if there's a seal or gasket I need to purchase separately or if these just mount in?
I've read some horror stories of units falling out from the single screw that holds them in and wondering how others have secured them from falling out. Thanks! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1411702395.jpg |
Yep, there is a gasket that sits between the headlamp assembly and the fender. Gasket will be seamed and flat on one side shaped on the other. Shaped side toward the fender. Seam at the bottom. You'll have to stretch the gasket on. Start at the top and work down stretching as you go. You don't won't too much pressure on the seam or the gasket will separate at the seam. Hook the lamp assembly at the top, compress gasket as you press in at bottom of lamp, then insert screw while there is no pressure on it. -J

Yes, you need the headlight rubber seal. See: Porsche 911 (1974-1989) - Lights and Lenses - Page 5

Good info. Do I stretch the gasket/seal onto the assembly or onto the fender?

Do it
While the weather is still warm, so you can lay the gasket out in the sun to make it easier to work with!

Read post #19 regarding proper fitting gaskets. Also if your gasket does have a visible seam place it on the bottom, if it separates it will allow water out. I agree with light silicone type lube as well, it's actually good on all of the light lens gaskets.

Can anyone confirm if they are HANDED? my left one doesn't seem to line up good.
Can't see any difference in part numbers and most advertise as left or right so thinking not. Thanks Brent |
They are not HANDED. Left and right are the same.

Thanks Dennis for the confirmation.

H4 left and Right
Hi Brent , thought i had better let you know,as DeRRis says ,yes that is correct
there is no left and right, same on both sides, but for left hand drive cars the lens have the angled side of lens on right side,--part number --1305-614-005 on right hand drive cars that is NewZealand,-Australia-etc the angled side of lens is the left side part number--1305-614-006, looking front on,. ask me how i know,Born in NZ, lived in US 10 years, now live in Ausy. Brent if you have the 005 lens for left hand, the authority safety cert guys would not notice that im sure, see a pair i have owned for years, regards. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1500208472.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1500208533.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1500208590.JPG |
I carefully bent the metal edge around the headlamp opening out just a little and added a lanyard just in case. I also ran ignition power to the running light inside the headlamp so when the key is on the running lights come on.
