Just bought a Porsche.
Stupidly didn't check to see if there was a key for the locking wheel bolts. ( no I'm not a wheel thief posting for help! ) I will try and get the key from the PO, if that fail do I have to pray for no punctures, or can i get a wheel off??? If you can post a pic of the lock, I can probably tell you the best way to remove it.

There is a way to do it, and it's very simple. The old style wheel locks are next-to-worthless, and can be removed in about 30 seconds. I'm not going to post the method, however, because one never knows who is lurking out there. My guess is that any experienced P-car mechanic will know the trick. It destroys the lock, however, so plan on buying a new set of updated locks. The updated locks are about $60 for the set, and provide MUCH better security. Don't fret, this isn't a big deal! LOL, I think just about everyone here knows the trick to getting them off.
I was trying to snag an experimental pair of calipers from a junk yard in my younger years and was frustrated by a set of locks. An old timer walked by and told me the secret, worked like a charm. I got the calipers and they sat in my garage for almost 10 years. I wonder what ever happened to them? :-) |

Has anyone on this board had a pair of wheels stolen off their 911 in the last 10 years? IMO, wheel locks are just gonna hose you some rainy night when you have flat tire.

If you're talking about the wheel locks as comes with my 84 Carrera, with the small key, it's not that difficult to remove and save the lock, and make a new key. Basically, you need to pick the lock while slightly pulling on it until all the pins line up and the lock slides off. It helps with a lock picking pistol. Then, you can slide in a blank key, look at the pins from the backside, and file down the new key until all the pins line up. Not much different than picking a mailbox. Or you can just drive your car to a good locksmith.

Or, you can just ditch the lousy locks and update them. They're really pathetic.
