Factory windshield goop... What is it?
Both of my 911's had factory windshields which contained a goop of sorts to aid in sealing. I have found that 3M makes a non hardening caulk of that seems promising. There is also the old butyl tape that is found on many older cars to seal the glass. Does anyone one know what the factory used? I plan to run my car year round and don't know if a dry seal will cut it.
Thanks |

Dry seal will work to prevent water leaks if it's new and installed properly. Use only Genuine Porsche Seals and it is very important to retain the original soft metal molding designed to hold the seal in properly.
If it were my car I would clean all the goop out before re-installing the new seal. |

Factory installed it with sealant for a reason....
I used the 3M product on an old seal and it hasn't leaked in 3 years. |

I found these images of a similar goop being applied in the late 60's to corvettes in the factory...
