What does a 16" fuchs and tyre weigh?

I've found a set of BBS wheels - 16" 7+8's. The chap who's selling them is going to weigh one for me tonight so I can compare them to Fuchs's and also work out the shipping.

Has anyone got a some scales, a Fuchs and a tyre lying about? What do they weigh?

Failing that, what does a tyre weigh? I can probably find the weight of a Fuchs alone somewhere.

Browse the manufacturer sites, I know several show weights although many brands I had interest in didn't.

Toyo comes to mind as one that currently does, as well as Bridgestone a couple of years ago.

My 15 x 8 Fuchs weighs in at 13lbs stripped of tyre, valve, paint and cap.

It is stamped as '12', which I believe is a light-weight Fuchs, rather than '42' which I believe is a heavy-weight Fuchs.

The tyre weight can vary quite a bit. . .making the comparison difficult. BBS's are usually on the light side. Though, I've heard, the BBS, that are as light (or lighter) than the Fuchs, are relatively fragile .

Ok, so here's what I found...

16 inch Fuchs...

6" - 17lb
7" - 18lb
8" - 19lb

Tyres - approx 19 - 22lb

Don't know about the BBS yet but this makes an average weight of about 40lbs - nearly 20kg!! I can't remember my wheels weighing as much as a fully packed suitcase.

Maybe the air in the tyres makes them feel lighter.

According to this...

http://members.rennlist.org/911pcars/WheelWts.html

they should weigh 16lbs - But like you said, I think you have some special ones.

I had no I dea there were so many types of fuchs.

If I didn't get the BBS and went for a set of 16" fuchs is there a danger I could end up with some of the wrong offset for my SC?

The BBS with a slick tyre weighed 35lbs. Even if a slick is lighter than a road tyre, it makes the BBS wheels pretty light. Somewhere between 15-20lbs?

I've got a spare set of 6's and 7's at home with tyres still on as well as a set of spare tyres in the same sizes. Different makes of tyres but I can weigh them all if you can wait until monday for a reply (pulled my hard disk last night to put in an 80GB one so cannot connect back until I've sorted it!)

Not very scientific but when I got my 7's and 8's back from the polishers they were packed like a roll of sweets together - I could pick them all up at once without a problem so they can't weigh much!

Don't worry Roy. By the time I'd added together a set of new tyres, postage and the wheels - it was coming out at almost double the price of a good set of Fuchs with reasonable tyres. I think I may go for those instead - it'll be more original too.

A pity though - they would have looked great.

Got to be honest and say I prefer the Fuchs anyway.

Still not sure about my polished ones but I think they look great on the black cars. My 6's and 7's were standard with gloss black centres and crested caps - I always thought they looked classy but the 7's and 8's fill out the arches better.

With the colour of your car I'd be tempted to try light coloured centres (maybe use photopoint or one of your more sophisticated programmes to experiment a bit?)

I was actually thinking of spraying them black - I saw it once on a german car and it looked great - very mean and sporty. I'll see if I can find an example.

I think when the centres are sprayed the same colour as the metallic bodywork - thay can sometimes look a bit dainty.

here's a few pics..

Roy, have you thought about a ducktail spoiler? It'd go nicely with the polished fuchs.

On light metallic blue I would agree; but on Paltinum Metalic, I think it works better than all black. The tryes give a nice balance of black. . .all black can be a bit too drab. IMO

Apparently, Porsche also thought the combination looked great. Here's the 1980 Weissachs Special Edition (US only)

and my recent change from full polish to Platinum and black centers. . .

I don't know - I've had a good look at them but it just doesn't do it for me. They're very smart - but not very sporty looking. Looks like the kind of thing a Dr would drive

Touche'

Yeah, the RS & RSR's are not very sporty looking with the Platinum Metalic Fuchs

Don't want to go the ducktail route - love the car as it is really.

When funds and / or time allows (not sure which is the most restricting factor really) I want to buy an older model, strip it out to lighten as much as possible, put a road cage in, lower and stiffen it, and finish it like a '73 RS - just for fun you understand!

I'd like to do the same with an SC (convert it to pre 73 and lighten it etc.) I have a terible fear of rust.

Also the SC is so solid and reliable and there are occasinally some real bargains to be had in Germany.
