Porsche Crest 86' 911 Passenger Door Questions

I am a mechanical novice but am excited to learn how to repair the power locks and broken power window on my recently purchased 911. I followed a door panel removal tutorial I found on Pelican Parts and it worked great! However, I am now stuck with a couple of questions and do not want to proceed without advice from others on this forum:

1. The power window makes a grinding noise when I try and roll it up. I assume this means the motor works but there is a linkage problem between the gears of the motor and the window actuator. The 101 projects book says to move the window all the way up before removing the window actuator. However, upon applying gentle pressure I cannot get the window to move. Should it move freely without much force or do you think it is symptomatic of a larger problem?

2. I have uploaded what I think must be the linkage problem to the power locks. It appears to be a broken white piece of plastic. Does anyone know what this part is?

Apparently the part in this picture is the actuator connecting rod:

I would still like to know if the window should move freely without power to the car though.

Welcome to the madness

Okay 1. you need to use the power to roll up the window and use a rubber tipped wood vise/clamp or tape it. The idea is not to let it slam down when you remove the motor/actuator/regulator.

2. hmmm, that is an odd one and hard to tell from the pic, can you widen the shot so we know where it is sitting?

#2 is the central locking rod end. The new ones are black with the rod and end molded as one part.

When I hit the power on the window I hear grinding coming from the window motor. I assume either the brushes on the motor are bad or the window assembly has rusted shut or something. Would you remove the motor from the rest of the assembly or try and get the window out of the guide channel that lifts the window up? Just wondering what the best path forward would be in your opinion.

Where is the window now, all the way down or part way?

The regulator and motor comes out together. So windows must be up.

Motor is probably shot anyways, use the motor and help the window up.

Remove motor and assess.

Eh?

I really would not recommend that. The clearances for getting the window regulator out are already a bit tight. I can't imagine wanting to bring the motor along for the ride.

I highly recommend taking the motor out first, and then the regulator. Hopefully you have some lubricant for the door lock/handle parts like Wurth HHS-K and sunroof/window channel grease like Wurth TruGlide. I also would asses the window regulator clock spring retaining post when you remove it. Chances are you will be better off replacing it now while the assembly is out of the car.

Also a good time to replace the plastic pivot clips for the handle/door lock, reinforce the door stays, and re-grease the door stays.

Thanks everyone for the help and advice. So far I have been unable to lift the window even with the motor "on". It makes a horrible racket but not much movement. I think my next step will be to try and disconnect the motor and see if I can fish it out through the door body with the window down. I am hoping unhooking it from the rest of the assembly should allow me to move the window more freely. I guess I should price replacement glass just in case ;-)

Sounds like the motor is shot as well.

Here is a brief update on The connector rod for the power locks. I attempted to make a replacement part on my 3d printer and I thought I'd share my rough draft:
