glove box light question

Tidying up some of the small details on my 76 to make everything perfect.
Ive noticed that my glove box light doesnt work. It has a 3 way switch on the light itself, which I assume is off, on when the glovebox is open, and on all the time. The light itself works as when I turn it to full "on" it lights, so I figured I have a glove box light switch problem.
I dropped the glove box shell out today, pulled the glove box light switch (located in the upper right side of the glove box door) and found there is no wire going from the light to the switch. The switch has a spade style male connector on it and I assume it works like a door switch, that is when the glove box door is open it grounds the switch and lights the light.
Anyway, with the glove box shell out I can see everything and there is no wire anywhere near the switch, and all of the spade connectors on the light itself are used (2 brown and 1 black wire).
Can anyone steer me in the right direction on how this should have been wired originally?
I've looked at the wiring diagram but cant seem to locate the glove box light on it.

Not sure the original layout, but you can restore function be running a wire from the spade on the switch to the empty spade on the light. The switch will ground through its body to the metal of the dash. Original color might have been brown with white stripe, but I think you could use black or brown wire (or anything really). BTW I would clean the switch contacts, and the connectors while you're doing this.
Good luck,
Dave

Dave;
Thanks for the tips.
The confusing part for me is that all of the spade connectors on the light are full (1 black and 2 brown wires). The wires go up into the top of the dash directly above the light; I tried to look everywhere at the switch side to see if one of the brown wires is disconnected and tucked up but I cant seem to find it.
Any idea which of the 2 brown wires on the one side of the light itself I should connect to the switch?

Sure. One of the brown wires is a constant ground, regardless of light switch position. You can verify this with a test light. The other brown wire, a switched ground, would normally be connected to your glove box door switch. Yours was probably disconnected or cut off, since you've looked exhaustively for it near the switch. Just pull the non-grounded brown wire off the light, and run a new wire from that terminal to the door switch.
Good luck,
Dave

Slightly OT but, when you get it working...

I can't speak for your 76, but my 72 glove box gave off dismal light - and it worked.

While at the Lit Show last year I picked up a couple of LED replacements - OMG what a difference. Let there be light!

ps I found out you can get them at any FLAPS
