Distributor Recurve Question

My R.O.W. 3.0 engine has had an early (smaller gear) distributor fitted to it. (It looks like a carrera, but it's not)

Here's a picture of the distributor:

It's got a little "target" on the side with "32" in it.

I'm switching from CIS to carbs. Do I still need to recurve this distributor? And...will the car run without recurving it in the short term?

Thanks!

Michael

It depends on what distributor you have. Some of them you can simply disconnect the vac and set more initial timing.

I typically re-curve them to a modified RS curve. Total curve comes in sooner.

The "32" is a casting date.

The part number is stamped on the other side.... 0 231 184 xxx

That's great news. Thanks!

SC's had a counter-clockwise distributor rotation. Earlier distributors were set for clockwise rotation. Which way is yours spinning, and what is the number on it?

Good point, Ed. Almost seems the engine type is a needed reference.

Type as in 930-XX

He most likely has a carrera 3.0. It ran a 2.7 style distributor and was clockwise. Or, someone installed a cw gear on the crank.
You would not be able to install a cw distributor in an engine with a ccw crank gear
