Question removing '87 horn button - what gives??

i know how they are supposed to be removed, but no matter how hard i pull (wrists leveraged against the wheel), it will not release. it's practically in a 'C' shape - all wrinkled - before i give up and release it. am i missing something? i thought there were simply plastic tabs that had to release, but this thing is hanging on for dear life. suggestions?

On my 85 there are I think 3 spring clips. I take the black plastic caps off the back of the wheel on either side then just pull it right off. Maybe your not cussing right

My 87 has 3 spring. Grab it on the left and right sides and with a strong, quick pull, should come off. Hard quick pull.

thanks guys. pulling slowing was just not doing it. i took a few quick tugs, but nothing still. i then pulled only from the top portion of the cover and the upper spring clip finally let go. the bottom 2 popped off easy after that. that sucker did not want to let go!!

here's the symptom i was having (and reason for the removal), my steering wheel had a slightly vertical wobble, so i wanted to check the splines and make sure they weren't wearing oddly or if the nut had somehow loosened. after taking a look - see pics below - i think the cause is possibly a missing bushing around the steering shaft. you can see the broken/shredded plastic and the remainder of the upper collar - i had already removed a fair bit of plastic and another section of ring - below the shaft.

i'm i correct that a 'support ring' belongs here - in the gap around the shaft?

appreciate any insight. thanks.

thank you!!

i have to say, i am one that searches before posting, but much of my initial searching was related to the horn button removal, so finding that thread about the bushing got by me. thanks for leading me in that direction though rick, as i did see mitch's bushing in the pelican catalog and i now know that's the option to go with. funny that there are nearly identical pics to mine in that thread on page 1.

thanks again. i'll be ordering the bushing today. love the information available on pelican!!
