Need Clutch recommendation for 911sc
Newbie looking for clutch recommendations for my 81 sc. Not a daily driver, but plan on using it as much as I can. Would like to keep it under $1000 for the parts if possible
Thanks Last edited by craigmakes3; 10-21-2014 at 03:23 PM.. Reason: typo |

Welcome to Pelican.
Honestly, you aren't going to be able to replace the clutch and components with new for under $100. Used parts may be less but if they are worth using they will cost some $$. Are you SURE you need to replace the clutch? You may just need to adjust the clutch cable. What sort of issues with the cluctch are you having?

I looked up a clutch kit for a 2005 Kia Rio on *********.com. It's $175.
No way for $100 on a 911. $700 for a Sachs power clutch (PP, T/O bearing, etc) No free lunch, sorry.

Maybe in 1981 you could get the parts for that price. You can check Ebay for a good price but you really don't want to cheap out and have to do it again.

Clutches are cheaper now than ever. A hundred bucks might buy a release bearing ......
Considering it takes a pro with a lift pretty much all day, it might take the better part of a weekend for a fairly good amateur wrench working on the floor, and considerably longer for a novice. This may not be the time to cheap out ... The Cap'n |

Option 1. Plan on the $100 AND then another $1500 for "while you're in there"
Option 2. Sell the car and buy a Miata |

The stock sachs clutch discs last a long time. I think I have over 100,000 miles on mine. You can find them for $131 if you look around.

If you want to do a clutch job and keep it "cheap" you can just replace the friction disk. When you replace the whole SACHS kit, you are looking at $800ish, only the friction disk (hopefully the other parts are still good) will run you about $250 iirc.
Good luck!!

One leisurely weekend job on the driveway. If I am in a hurry, I can get it done in one Saturday providing I do not do anything else while I am in there. $1,000 is what it takes for a kit, plus your oil.
